Two words for Dem Strategist: Flash Mob
This is the wrong bunch to worry about writing letters-to-the-editor. If that's the cornerstone of our anti-Bush message effort, we are so completely doomed.

This group has the potential to provide scores if not hundreds or thousands of instant message deliveries. The paradigm is MoveOn, not the letter-to-the-edit page at johnkerry.com

If you had a few thousand wired people who were prepared to turn on their radio and pick up the phone on very short notice, you could start to slap down the daily dose of Bushit--at least on the local AM airwaves--before it even gets started.

Letters to the editor (which are fine, but tend to run days or mroe behind the headlines) could be ready for delivery to the newspaper at about the time the trucks start to roll.

When I was a Bonafied Junior Spinmeister back in the 80's/early 90s, monitoring talk radio was already an esablished practice.

We need to take this sort of instant response into the age of the flash mob and the cell phone.

If you have 10,000 people who would turn on their AM radio the moment the message arrivied in their phone or RIM, have been to the web page for the anti-spin, and we're ready to call as soon as the local Rush-wannabe started reading his daily fax, we could do a tremenous amount of good.

1. Interesting idea,
markus. If I were to be a member of such a "mob" and I received alerts to my ipager or cell phone, what would my role be? Would I make a phone call? Send a fax or email?

I think something like this could really work.

3. Kudos...And Kicked Again
:kick:

We're at a critical stage of this marathon/campaign. This is that gap time when 70 million in GOOP/RNC/Rove money is flying all over. It's that gap that made the Kerry folks think about deferring his accepting the nomination until when Bunnypants did so he could match the raising of money & spending.

Right now those GOOP coffers and spin machines are going full tilt. Speakers are at the ready for any and all talk shows. Callers are placed for various talk shows (Washington Journal), and the entire Rove Spin operation relies on a "telephone" game of starting a rumor through an "undisclosed source" that is passed on to a Drudge then by morning is a "news story" that is then spun by Hate radio and finally tuned on the nightly food fights. There's little organized Democratic response.

Where's Betty Wright when we need her? The woman who ran Clinton's instant response team in '92. That was one of the few times the Democrats were able to counter this machine. We need to do it now or face batting down diversions and non-stories the rest of the way.

Also, we need to keep watch on a trick I expect to be played after the convention. Bunnypants will "bypass the national media" and use his office for dozens of staged interviews on local news programs...many on stations owned by heavy GOOP contributors like Clear Channel and Sinclair. I hope this one's on Dem Strategist's radar.

6. I hope DS has REALLY thick skin.
Disclaimer: I am not trying to shut anyone up.

HOWEVER!!
These posts directly made to DS with "I think you should" "Why don't you" "You're doing this wrong" etc. are harmful for both the Kerry Camp and DU.

First, these guys are the professionals. Let's let them do their jobs and support them as best we can. That's not to say we shouldn't post our opinions--we absolutely should because that's why they are here in the first place. HOWEVER--making it a pointed post in that manner is counterproductive and will only end up pissing off the members in thinking they're not being heard.

Second, you might as well put a red blinking light on the post inviting Rove, JimRob, and the rest of the enemy. Yes, they're already here too...but titling these "Hey DS!" type things just flags it for them. Point is, if they're going to snoop, let them work for it without shining a flashlight on the efforts of the Kerry Campaign.

7. DS showed up and invited dialog...
...and you're suggesting we should not engage in said dialog???

I for one am glad that DS has shown up, and I'm very pleased to see creative ideas like the one proposed in this thread. Why on earth would you be trying to throw cold water on such an idea? So what if DS might choose not to implement it? Isn't that what brainstorming is all about? And it's not only DS who could take this idea and run with it...

As for the "these guys are the professionals" argument, well, DS chose to show up here and make his/her presence known, 'nuff said.

Finally, as to red blinking lights, this whole site is a red blinking lite for the Rove crew, so what? We should communicate in code or something? We should make our ideas for DS hard to find so that Rove et al can't find them ... and DS can't either? How again does that help?

Sorry if I'm sounding combative -- but I really truly fail to see the point of this post.

8. I think liburl is reiterating what I said yesterday
which is that I can't possibly respond to hundreds of suggestions, so I risk offending posters by not responding.

10. No offense taken
I donned the flame suit LOL

...and you're suggesting we should not engage in said dialog???...
No, I absolutely think we should continue. But just in the same manner as before we knew proof positive that at least one Kerry Camp member (who is a decision maker) is reading us. Yes, DS chose to show up and I too am glad for it. I think it was a bold and brilliant thing to do. It provides the credibility of an anonymous board so that we, as part of the grassroots force, are able to focus and assist when called upon.

I do worry about DUers throwing up their hands and getting frustrated all over again and again because they perceive they're not being heard--particularly when pointedly titling the thread to DS. One of the things s/he originally said was to tell us that this board is well read and followed to gain insight. And no, I'm not suggesting we speak in codes as s/he didn't have any trouble gaining that insight before posting. I'm suggesting that we should go back to that mindset while taking particular note of what DS has to offer us.

Sorry I'm not making this very clear.

11.  Kerry campaigners and DUers have nothing to fear in getting the truth out
I can't see Rove changing his smear tactics in order to counter the "judo" approach.

The GOP has limited itself because it relies to heavily on falsehoods as a resource.
