I'm debating my pro-Bush friend...help me quick
He keeps talking about how Bush is so religious and his values, where is that thread I read just yesterday about an article from Salon.com about a reporter asking Bush what he and his father talked about and GWB replied "pussy". Thanks in advance!!!!

2. that reporter
is a major league asshole.

I'm sure you remember that from the 2000 campaign.

Christians don't take from the poor and give to the rich.

4. Quote him the line from the Bible (don't know the verse) that says
Do not pray in public on the street corners, for those who do are hypocritical. Pray by yourself in the closet, then I will believe you.

To paraphrase.

7. That's in Matthew 6.
Not sure the exact verse either, but it's in the area of the Sermon on the Mount.

6. Get out a Bible (or go to one of the online versions if you don't have a
Bible) and read Matthew 5. Go down the list of how JESUS HIMSELF said to live your life. Ask him if Bush qualifies as Christ-like.

(That's the Sermon on the Mount, with the list of Beattitudes.)

Blessed are the peacemakers, blessed are the poor in spirit, blessed are the meek, etc.

8. Proverbs 6:16
"These six things the Lord hates, yes, seven are an abomination to Him: a proud look, a lying tongue, hands that shed innocent blood, a heart that devises wicked plans, feet that are swift in running to evil, a false witness who speaks lies, and one who sows discord among brethren"

Sounds like George Bush to me.

9. Here's an excerpt from our debate, which has convinced me to vote for Bush
I have removed screen names for his sake...

Him: 60 million liberated people, one less ruthless dictator, an economy on the rise and INTEGIRTY restored to the white house
Me: 1000 dead us soldiers for a ficticious war = integrity?
Him: ok stfu 3 intelligence sources told him sadam had wmds..what would u have done?
Me: who? rumsfeld, condi, and cheney?
Him: try the cia, uk, and russia
Me: cia= real credible, esp. after 9/11, and if russia said they had wmds why didnt they support the war?
Him: 3000 dead americans after 911, and 3 intel sources tell u iraw has wmds and is an imminent threat, what do u do
Me: make sure theyre right before i sacrifice american troops
Him: just like ur pussy friend john kerry, gotta get un permission
Him: whats with u dude the only guys i know that vote for kerry are FAGs!!!!!

That last line was especially convincing...sigh. I'm probably pretty conservative compared to most of you here at DU, but I'm amazed by the ignorance of the pro-Bush people...it's sickening.

11. What has right-wing America done to Christianity?
Here's a little more ammo for your discussions:

None of these (RW) people, however, refer much to anything Jesus actually said. In fact, they don’t seem to know what Jesus actually said. “Christ changed my heart,” says onetime presidential candidate Gary Bauer. “There is no king but Jesus,” declares John Ashcroft. “I’ve accepted Jesus as my personal savior,” says Bush. But no one ever says, “Well, you know, as Jesus Christ once said, ‘Whoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.’” Or, “As it says in Matthew 6:2, ‘Don’t sound a trumpet when you give alms!’” Or, “In the Gospel of Luke, Jesus says, ‘Do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again, and your reward shall be great.’” In the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, Bush’s speechwriters had him coin the phrase “If you’re not with us, you’re against us,” a rough paraphrase of something Jesus said in Matthew 12:30. But the ninth chapter of Mark has it different: “Whoever is not against us,” Jesus assures His disciples, “is for us.”

<snip>

After combing through the Congressional Record, transcripts of television interviews, and magazine articles on the Bush administration and its faith-based politics, I’ve come to suspect that the Bush administration and its allies in the legislature have no real interest in Jesus. They’re quite happy to have fashioned a whole religion out of political expediency, and called it Christianity for the name recognition. They don’t quote the Bible because the words of Jesus are not useful to them.

12. reply
- 60 million liberated people who are now having a civil war. The economy is not on the rise, it has just been sitting there for a long time. The most recent new jobs report was WAY BELOW expectations. There is a report where the British lied about the # of mass graves, not 400,000, only 5000.

- UN inspectors found no wmd BEFORE the invasion. Ask him what his intelligence sources are? Ask him how come David Kay concluded there were no WMD there? Ask him why Tenet resigned. Ask him about how Wilson debunked the nigerian uranium claims which turned up to be FORGED documents.

- Once again ask him what his 3 sources are? Isnt it OBVIOUS by now that Iraq was NO THREAT???

- Ask him how it feels to be a braindead sheep that believes everything the government tells him. Ask him if he believes Oswald killed JFK.

On a final thought, do you really need friends like that?
