BREAKING NEWS - George W. Bush is a HOMOSEXUAL
Regarding George:

If a person actively and readily engages in hateful thoughts regarding the mere concept of homosexuality, does that make such a person a homosexual in his own right?

In other words, is it the thought or the act which defines homosexuality? Is it a mental state or a physical state?

And why do homophobes, by definition, so readily engage in cerebral homosexual activities? …Unless they are, by definition, homosexuals.

Perhaps it will come up in the debates.

2. That disgusting POS is a straight heterosexual Texan
please don't try to slander him by saying that he's homosexual. It is IMHO a compliment.

4. He Is NOT A Texan!!
He does not deserve that honorable title, being as he was BORN in New Haven, Connecticut!

Do not insult our great state by saying bush is a Texan. He's not.

9. Gay: No; Texan: Yes
Sorry to break it to you, but bush is like a walking stereotype of a "Texan". Now I'm not saying all Texans are like bush but he is CERTAINLY not the stereotypical CT'er. At all.

Call me a northeast snob if you'd like, but we all have to recognize the bad parts of where we're from. And for Texans, your blight is bush.

15. That's exactly what he is: a stereotype
He's basically a caricature of a Texan. No one actually acts like him down here.

The reason why he is such a laughable exaggeration of a real Texan is because he's not from here. He is the perfect stereotype of someone who came from Connecticut with an eye to make himself a "cowboy."

7. Even if he is - and I doubt it -
Edited on Thu Aug-12-04 09:10 PM by elperromagico
it doesn't change the fact that he's a lousy President. It would only make his stance on gay marriage all the more disturbing.

Beyond that, it makes no difference IMHO.

10. Not this BS again.
Since you're apparently new here, let me bring you up to speed on a few things:

1. Every once in a while, there's a rash of threads started on the boards along the lines of, "This conservative politician we all hate is really GAY!"

2. Every time this happens, a significant number of GBLT DUers get pissed off and attempt to explain to their straight DU brethren and sistren why this kind of thing is offensive to them.

3. This immediately starts a separate discussion about whether these GBLT DUers are being too sensitive or their straight DU brethren and sistren are being too insensitive which usually tends toward becoming a flamewar.

4. Eventually, the mods lock the threads.

Not only is this not breaking news, it's not useful debate, and IMHO it's not funny either. George W. Bush is not gay. He's just a selfish, ignorant, mentally blinkered buffoon who panders to fundamentalist hatred of gay people because they're the only reason he's in power now.

Give it a freakin' rest,

The Plaid Adder

14. How gracious of you to welcome people into the discussion!
You've got a real heart of gold there.

But Plaid is 100% right on this one. Every couple of months, we get an epidemic of posts accusing every vicious right wing sonofabitch in the world of being gay, and it does offend a lot of people, leading to flamewars and the like. Once you've spent more than fifteen or twenty minutes here, you'll see it.

In the meantime, you might want to learn a little bit about the culture of this place before lording it over people who have been around here for a long time.

20. Good plan. Tell off a popular, eloquent DU writer....
'cause then we'll take you seriously.

IMHO (and apparently DU's) Plaid Adder is a VERY special person; I bookmark many of his/her articles. If you can, I suggest you read "In the Pursuit of Happiness" by Plaid Adder. This article is a truly admirable contribution to the fight for Civil Rights for gay couples. It's reassuring to know we have such a talented writer among our ranks.

You're probably new to DU (by the way Welcome to DU :pals:)so we'll give you the benefit of the doubt and forgive you for acting pompous in your ignorance of Plaid Adder's respected standing here.

22. Why do you people love walking around looking for a good fire?
And how do we prvent Plaid Adder from going out of his way to bait people like hope42mro into the flames?

Does a very simple discussion have to be so complicated?

27. Umm...Good Question....BUT...
Plaid Adder is a girl...which you'd know if you'd CAREFULLY read many of her articles and books as you claim!
She makes it quite clear she is a lesbian. Which means she's female. so why do you refer to Plaid Adder as "going out of HIS way...?"
I'm totally curious...
Do you just assume EVERYONE is a guy, unless you know otherwise?
And again, if you really HAVE read much of Plaid Adder, you know she's a girl.

25. Damn I Like You, Plaid Adder!!
If only you weren't a girl!! LOL!!

Hey, seriously...why do you suppose that straight DU'ers who do not "get it" about us GLBT people...why do you suppose they do not understand why WE see this sort of B.S. as insulting...and why do you suppose they see us as being "hypersensitive" when we speak up about it?

Why does it seem to me that the only ad-hominem "slur" that is seems okay to use is one referring to homosexuality or transgenderism? You wouldn't catch these same DU'ers dropping "n-bombs!"

So why do they go and accuse US of being overly sensitive when these things are directed at US??

As a transgender person (male-to-female...surgery finally done just under 2 years ago) I was particularly offended by Scwartzenegger's reference to "girlie-men" for example. As if, somehow, women were LESS than men. Or that women has less intestinal fortitude than men!!

It was a disparaging remark to all women, and to transgender women. And THIS BS is disparaging to all GLBT people. We are NOT overly sensitive for pointing it out. Or for geting upset by it.

the one who would START such a thread is incredibly insensitive to their fellow DU'ers..and their fellow human beings feelings!

And I'm offended with the initial post in this thread myself! I would be offended, quite frankly, to have ANYTHING in common with Dubya. Like Natalie Maines, I'm embarrassed that Dubya is "from" Texas. He isn't, of course...and most Texans are NOTHING LIKE Dubya.

But, alas, the stereotype lives on and on and on and on....

anyway, you seriously rock, Plaid Adder!!
