Is this why the GOP is not releasing names of the Delegates?
There is a 70% increase in Minority Delegates!

The MINORITY issue is going to be the BIG THEME at the GOP Convention. Read this GOP Convention site and you'll see the Minority strategy for the convention. I think they are keeping the names of Delegates under wraps for this reason...so that we don't notice how many Gonzalez, Gomez, and Garcias are on the list, but are, instead, taken by surprise and amazed at the number of minority faces across Madison Square Garden on August 30th.

Delegate Diversity

"When the Republican Party hosts its first-ever national convention in New York City next month, it will welcome the most diverse group of delegates in party history.

Under the steady and optimistic leadership of President George W. Bush, the Republican Party is celebrating a milestone achievement in our party's connection with America's minorities. Since the 2000 convention, there has been an estimated 70 percent increase among minority delegates."

"Unlike the Democrat's quota system, the Republican Party's open process has garnered a percentage increase 4 times greater than the percentage increase of minorities at the Democrat Convention since 2000."

Percentage Increase Of Ethnically Diverse Delegates between the
2000-2004 National Conventions

"President Bush has appointed one of the most diverse cabinets in the history of America." (Goes on to list Powell, Rice, etc.)

"The 2004 Republican National Convention will celebrate the president's record of improving the quality of life for all Americans. Under the leadership of President Bush, the Republican Party celebrates diversity and is strengthening its ties to ethnic communities throughout the nation."

Get ready for all those "homemade" signs!

1. % increases and % decreases "lie."
Their "increase" can be larger as a % if they started with a much lower number. For instance, if they had 1 minority delgate in 2000 and now they have 4, it is a 400% increase--but hardly something to brag about. I want to see the actual numbers.

3. Let's see, a 70% increase of 25 delegates would increase delegates to 42!
Interesting, they do not give actual numbers of delegates.

4. How could they ever find that many minority Repugs?
After all, they couldn't find a single black Repug in the entire state of Illinois.

5. Talk about lying with statistics. Look at that graph
One would think that the GOP is a minority-friendly institution.

In one sampling, class A and Class B have one hundred total members each and Class A contains 40 members of Subclass X while Class B contains two members of Subclass X. On the next sampling, each class still has 100 members but Class A now has 44 members of Subclass X and Class B now has three.

Well, membership of Subclass X is growing at faster rate (50%) in Class B than in Class A (10%). I guess that means that nowadays, Class B is a better place for Subclass X than is Class A.

If that sounds like nonsense, it's because it is.

6. They are also making a big issue out of the # of WOMEN Delegates
"In 2004, minorities make up 17 percent of total delegates and women make up 44 percent."

"The 2004 Republican National Convention will host record numbers of female delegates. In fact, in 12 states (Washington, California, Ohio, Idaho, the District of Columbia, Montana, Delaware, Oregon, Georgia, Hawaii, New York, and North Dakota), women represent 50 percent of their delegations."

7. If they had 10 minority delegates in 2000
that chart means they'll have 17 this year, and I think that's probably being pretty generous. Fools are supposed to read that chart and figure a majority will be black or brown. Boy, are they going to be in for a surprise!

They're not releasing the names of their delegates they're paranoid.
