94-Year-Old N.H. Woman Seeks Senate Seat

Thu Aug 12, 2:04 PM ET

By BEVERLEY WANG, Associated Press Writer

DUBLIN, N.H. - "I am not a nice old lady," Doris "Granny D" Haddock says, wheezing slightly as she walks up a road near her home. The 94-year-old relishes adventure and near-impossible challenges — once walking across the country despite emphysema brought on by a half-century of smoking.

Now Haddock has taken on another Herculean task: She is trying to unseat Republican Sen. Judd Gregg (news, bio, voting record), one of New Hampshire's most popular politicians.

She embarked Thursday on a 200-mile walk through New Hampshire to promote her candidacy, sent off by a marching band and about 100 well-wishers. Haddock plans to walk five miles each morning and campaign by car the rest of the day.

1. She is an inspiration
Her platform I agree with 100%. If I were a citizen of NH I would not only vote for her I would volunteer for her.

2. Jugghead Gregg is due for a comuppance

Granny D. will hold his peculiarly raunchy Republican feet to the fire.

Many years back, if memory serves, Jughead Gregg threw an elderly widow out of her house in Francestown, NH to make money. Maybe Granny D's campaign is a sort of Karmic Balancing Act.

Be nice to elderly widows and widowers, my sainted old Grandmother often told me, for you may well be one yourself someday.
