One man's problem with Obama 'He's a Muslim, and I don't like what his pastor says'
The race issue is complicated by false, but rampant, rumors that Obama is Muslim. In Leslie County, a Republican county where Obama won 5 percent of the Democratic vote, the county judge-executive doesn't hesitate before mischaracterizing Obama's religion.

"I think one of the big problems for him is he's Muslim," said Jimmy Sizemore, the highest elected official in the county. "It's his religion, plus when his pastor came out and started talking, that was a problem, but that's just my opinion."I don't think it's because he's black, what everybody says is he is a Muslim."

http://www.kentucky.com/news/state/story/414800.html

What the fuck? How the hell can he be a Muslim if he has a Pastor?

22. Obama hasn't got a chance at getting this moron's vote anyway -
so why waste the effort of going after this clown's support.

We should concentrate on securing the votes of independents and other people that may be "unsure that America is heading in the right direction under the Republicans".

30. I agree. Despite what the article says, there are some demographics you
can pretty much write off. People who believe Obama is a Muslim who happens to have a Christian pastor are not worth the effort--there is no reasoning with people who don't understand that those ideas do not reconcile. If that's an endemic belief in KY, I think KY is going to go McCain no matter what.

28. Exit polls

22% of Hillary's voters in KY said that "race played a factor in their votes".

13% of Hillary's voters in KY said they thought that "Obama was a muslim".

53% of Hillary's voters in KY said they thought that Obama shared Rev. Wright's values.

The OP was about a prominent official in KY, saying the SAME THINGS that Hillary supporters said in exit polls in KY.

A big chunk of her base are red neck morons.

37. Here's your link, but I don't expect a response from you....

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/epolls/#KYDEM

Highlights:

Was race the most important issue for you?

yes - 21%
no - 78%

of the 21% that said "yes"... 81% voted for Clinton, 16% voted for Obama

81% of 21% is about 16%.

16% of the Kentucky Democratic electorate voted for Clinton because Obama is black. 1 out of 6 voters.

That's a big chunk of Clinton's base.... you may not be in that chunk, but doesn't it make you uncomfortable that 1 out of 6 Democratic voters in Kentucky are so blatantly racist that they don't even lie to pollsters about it?!?!?

Those are your compadres.

See how that works?

Rep. Greg Stumbo, D-Prestonsburg: "People want to hear Obama say things, like 'I'm not a Muslim, I'm not part of this sect that hates America.'"

Hear that, Muslims? A Democratic elected official thinks your religion is a sect, and that you all hate America. Isn't that great?

12. Despite all of this, Obama polls even with McGramps with about 10% undecided in most swing states
We have to assume that these ignorant folks are in McGramps' 45% column. Perhaps some of that 45% can even be swayed if they get to know Obama a bit better.

Meanwhile the remaining 55% are not ignorant, haven't been turned off by the Jeremiah Wright garbage, and are at least willing to give Obama a chance. He is a much better campaigner than McGramps and he should have little trouble putting together a majority in these states.

53. Your post reminded me of a conversation my SO was telling me about, he was
talking to a small shop owner (who deals in about everything)anyway the price of gas came up so naturally so did politics, my SO said something was said that led him to say "well I'm a democrat" the other guy said "well, I like you anyway" then both agreed that mclame was not what this country needed so my SO started telling him if he didn't vote it was still like giving your vote to mclame and so on. The other guy said he didn't know what to do cuz he was a republican after all. My SO asked him if he liked to read, he said yes I read all the time, well I've got a couple books I'll bring ya, to which the other guy replied, Oh I don't read books! the way he said books was like it was a bad word!

So I'm wondering if he reads all the time but doesn't read books what does he read? The closed-caption on faux?

Is that Christian? Not according to many Freepers.

Most people I hang around (figuratively) with require a "legitimate" "Christian" church to post a declaration of Belief with links to the various Creeds and an Appologia pointing out that particular religion's differences (eg. infant baptism) and supporting scripture.

Many of the "Christians" on my block would have no idea what that even means. The big Beulah church down the block posts a new heresy on its billboard every week.

60. I think the majority of these people are straight up racists, it's just easier for them to claim
they are ignorant. No stigma attached to ignorance.

65. We have become too afraid of offending morons
We should call this out for what it is: pure, unadulterated ignorance with a splash of racism thrown in. Why does our party pussyfoot around the fact that there are pockets of this drool-flecked stupidity all around our great land? It's not like those mouth-breathing rubes are going to vote Democratic anytime this century.

"Kentucky ignorance" should be the new "San Francisco values"

74. *headdesk*
Still, fuck it, someone that stupid was most likely going to vote Republican anyway (not all conservatives are stupid but stupid people do tend to be conservative).

What annoys me is that it's apparently "elitist" to point out that some people aren't sanctified heartland volk who should be worshipped and doted upon, some people are just fucking dumb.

78. The smear is Muslim and his spirituality means he has the wrong values
I'm bummed out.

http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/AbcNews_PoliticalPunch/~3/300746323/priest-and-obam.html

You should read what Jake Tapper has to say on a new preacher for Obama.

I'm at a lost as to what Obama can do with all this talk. A lot of these statements go to fears about who BHO might be. I just don't know when the Republicans really start pushing the race stuff harder than HRC did at this point whether the larger U.S. population will listen beyond BHO's skin color.

The media was pushing this storyline he can't win the white vote. HRC has been saying whites won't vote for him.

Sometimes the truth doesn't matter. Sometimes the fears overcome the real story. I am wondering for the people who don't know whether a half white half black can do the job...I'm wondering whether they just need an excuse to say we can't take that kind of chance.

If the Republicans press hard enough, what is the response to the person who says he's a Muslim who stayed in that anti American church too long?

That response needs to be outstanding.

85. The Muslim thing is code for the N word.
They don't care if he's a Muslim or goes to an Afrocentric church or is contributing to the soup at the Church of All Worlds. The "Muslim" smear is just code for "dude, have you noticed, he's black!?!!!!"

86. Ah, Kentucky
I used to live there. There are a lot of bright, intelligent people in Kentucky. And then there's Jimmy Sizemore. Jimmy doesn't actually believe any of this; it's just his way of saying "not one of us," in a way that won't get him into too much trouble.

Give Obama 15 minutes with him. He'd charm his socks off.
