Obama VP possibility Brian Schweitzer, Governor of Montana.

Sit through the 30-second political ad. The near hour-long Charlie Rose interview with Schweitzer will automatically load.

I think Schweitzer would round out the perfect ticket in November...what do you think?

1. Got a voice like a little boy...
...otherwise a decent choice.

2. Maybe, but that voice also speaks Arabic.
...and he has hands-on experience dealing in practical matters in the ME.

3. Like I said, a decent choice...I like him...
...but he sounds a lot younger than he is. Also, I don't think he's going to be considered, though I could be wrong.

4. It's a shame if he isn't. I think he would probide a great balance to the ticket.
Obama has a perceived problem with rural white voters. Schweitzer could lend a lot of support in that demographic.

8. That's true...that's a strength, but I think since McLame is hammering
away on foreign policy right now, they'll bite and try to get some ex-general or somebody like that.

9. I hope not. Obama seems smarter than that, but is the Party?
Look at the polls. People care a whole lot less about foreign policy than they do about the economy...gas prices in particular.

Give them a plan...even an embryonic plan...and they'll jump.

6. I think the Repub's heads will explode if he's the VP candidate.
Common sense, pro 2nd Amendment...and he makes McCain's "straight talk" look like a snake oil salesman's pitch.

Assuming he'd make it through the vetting process, having him on the ticket seems like a slam-dunk.

7. He makes sense on so many levels. Biden was my top pick til I googled his age.
Schweitzer is young, vital, experienced and down to earth.

12. ..and he effectively eliminates the "Democrats are liberal elitists" meme.
I think he'd guarantee a win in November.

22. yes! He's an interesting guy, well-spoken. He would make an excellent POTUS in his own right
and he's probably more "populist" than Obama.

16. "Interesting" is an understatement.

I expect Obama to win the GE by 4%-5% regardless of his VP pick.

I think that Schweitzer on the ticket would get us a 10%-15% win.

13. I'd like to get one with foreign policy bona fides
Make Schweitzer Secretary of Interior and set him up for 2016. Clark or Biden for VP

15. Clark seems to be a Clinton supporter...and Biden is perceived as an "establishment" guy...
It's my contention that Schweitzer's value is not only in his abilities, but in his voter appeal.

...specifically, the white rural voters that Dems seem to have so much trouble with.

17. I think Schweitzer would be a good choice too.
His down to earth personality would help the Dem ticket connect with a lot of people, especially in more rural areas.

18. It would be an amazingly balanced ticket of contrasts...
I'll repeat what I said last night on the Schweitzer threads...
A constitutional lawyer/community organizer/urban rooted senator/charismatic speaker

A rancher/pro-gun rights and personal liberties/outdoorsman/businessman with experience in international agricultural building projects/known for bringing his dog to work/known for folksy one line statements to convey positions

Two colorful characters, almost a two-pronged offensive..

I am intrigued by the potential. For sure I want Obama to go West--the easterners may be capable but are drab.. The West deserves someone on the ticket--and both Richardson and Schweitzer bring unique strengths...

19. I love Schweitzer, but...
he's running for re-election as governor of Montana this year. Timing is off for Schweitzer as the Montana governorship election cycle matches the Presidential one. If he decides to run for Obama's VP, he will have to give up running for governor of MT. That's a decision only he can make.

Also, Schweitzer is kind of an Alpha Male type and if he does have future ambitions to be Prez, it may be best to do it after being governor for another 2 terms. VP's rarely make it as President.

20. Schweitzer says that his goal is to help change the world.
Yes, he can do that as the Governor of Montana, but what better place to do it now than as VP?

In 8 years, he can be the candidate whose vision is well on its way to securing our energy independence. That's not a bad place to start a Presidential election.
