How Not To Win Over Superdelegates - Clinton Campaign DNC Protest
Edited on Thu May-29-08 09:13 PM by rhombus
The spectacle that the Clinton folks are going to put on this Saturday is only going to alienate Superdelegates.

Several busloads of backers from Florida, Michigan and some prominent supporters are mobilizing a Saturday protest outside the D.C. hotel where the Rules Committee is meeting.

Hillary, I respect you but my goodness, your campaign strategy has been awful from Day One.

6. And the Obama supporters are going out to register people to vote.
Obama is preparing for the general election while Hillary is still stuck trying to win a non-existent primary battle.

What has the Hillary campaign done to prepare for the general election? Not a damn thing.

10. That was one of the basic Obama campaign philosophies put forth from the get go. No drama,
no prima donas, no big egos, no back biting and internecine infighting.

Betsy Myers mentioned that yesterday.

It's served Obama's campaign very well. Even the underpaid overworked campaign office staffers do a great job of keeping even keeled and mellow. Makes volunteering there easy.

21. The Hill: "Obama urges supporters not to demonstrate at crucial DNC meeting"

Obama urges supporters not to demonstrate at crucial DNC meeting

By Bob Cusack at The Hill 05/28/08

Sen. Barack Obama’s (D-Ill.) campaign is urging its supporters not to demonstrate at Saturday’s highly anticipated Democratic National Committee (DNC) meeting on how to handle the delegates of Florida and Michigan.

In an internal campaign e-mail obtained by The Hill, the Obama campaign states, “We look forward to the meeting proceeding smoothly — and we’re asking our supporters not to show up to demonstrate, passionately as they feel about this campaign.”
This weekend’s meeting of the DNC’s 30-member Rules and Bylaws Committee (RBC) at a Marriot Wardman Park hotel in Washington, D.C. is expected to be a media circus, and will likely attract many supporters of Obama and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.).

But the Obama campaign wants to avoid heated intraparty confrontations that would attract national headlines and be replayed on the cable news networks. Saturday’s potential public relations nightmare comes as the Obama campaign is taking steps to unify the party as the Democratic primary process appears to be winding down.

and go, "WTF?" I hope the demonstrators get maximum 24 hour cable coverage.

Peace,

9. Yeah, who is her target audience?
The Supers won't buy this--at all. Seasoned, political insiders know
an orchestrated PR event when they see one. Hell, they've probably
orchestrated a few in their lifetimes.

The Supers will be rolling their eyes.

I don't think any Obama supporters will see the angry crowd, and experience some
kind of Hillary epiphany.

I think she's just doing this for herself. I think she's alexathymic at this point
in order to keep herself numb--she keeps herself moving, involved in chaos and running
at breakneck speed.

At this point, she's like a shark. If sharks stop moving, they die. If Hillary stops
moving, and her mind gets quiet--the reality comes crashing down.

This is just more energy spent on keeping her mind, and her 'self', moving.

16. Those poor Supers.
I just heard on AAR last night, a Super Delegate called in. Bill Press asked him, "So....have you been pressured to vote one way or another? giggle, giggle.

Responded: "Oh my Gosh I've gotten over 1,000 messages to vote for Clinton, just in 1 day". Can you imagine? This is bonkers.

12. wtf are they protesting? The Rules Committee hasn't even
met yet, and they are already going to protest? F'in ridiculous.

And the idiots are protesting their own freakin' party!

They should head over to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue if they want to protest. What a waste of time to protest a meeting of the DNC Rules Committee.

15. Good Advice For Obama Supporters--Please Pass This Around
Some of us may still be considering going to protest the DNC meeting

despite Senator Obama's wishes.

Huge Mistake!

1). This is exactly what Hillary is counting on. When the TV cameras

report the event, the strength of the demonstration will be determined by

the total number of people on the streets. It is this image alone,

regardless of any spoken or printed works to the contrary. This will

involuntarily compel every single observer to instantly believe that every

person attending this event is there to protest that FL & MI results. Our

presence will have the inevitable consequence of telling the world that we

believe that the results should be counted.

It will make absolutely no difference that this is not at all what we

would have intended.

2). If the only protesters at the Meeting are Hillary supporters, how do

you think the Hillary campaign will look to the press and the DNC? Pretty

lousy, that's what.

3). Senator Obama is of course correct that we must not unintentionally

increase the potential for negative incidents. Hillary is ruthless and

desperate. Don't you think that her supporters are feeling much the same

way? This is a trap.

Everyone must avoid this area like the plague. If you want to help, try to

gently dissuade any Obama supporters from loitering.

Let the DNC, the press and the country be angry with Hillary. They should

be.

We still have primaries left to win, one vote at a time. That's our job.

It would help if everyone would do their best to help circulate this

email.

This is Senator Obama's call to make; not ours.

17. I hate to give ideas, but in the interest of not looking like complete fools, might I suggest...
That they do a silent protest. They can make signs saying it's silent for the votes, or something like that. Just don't go making asses out of yourselves on public teevee. Keep FoxNews and the republicans in mind. Please don't make us laugh at you for years to come.

22. That's impossible. There'll be real Hillary supporters mixed with operation chaos dittoheads,
the op chaos jackasses no doubt carrying placards with GO HILLARY in large print, with large red-lettered anti-Obama anti-Dem slogans below. Oh, and plenty pots and pans, oranges and shoes. It sure won't give Hillary's message a boost - but no doubt it'll get a lot of play on the MSM
