Rupert Murdoch predicts landslide for Democrats

Thu May 29, 2008 1:31pm EDT

By Eric Auchard

CARLSBAD, California (Reuters) - News Corp Chief Executive Rupert Murdoch on Wednesday predicted a Democratic landslide in the U.S. presidential election against a gloomy economic backdrop over the next 18 months.

Murdoch has yet to endorse a U.S. presidential candidate but considers Barack Obama very promising, the media magnate said in an interview by two Wall Street Journal reporters at an annual conference for high-tech industry insiders.

News Corp recently acquired ownership of the Journal and its parent company Dow Jones & Co.

"You have got the Obama phenomenon. You have got, undoubtedly, a recession ... The average American is really getting hurt financially and that all bodes well for him (Obama), Murdoch said.

"You have probably the making of a complete phenomenon in this country," Murdoch said in describing what he predicted will be a sweeping victory for Democrats in November.

1. I like punctuality. If Mussolini wore a reliable watch and got to work on time...
and said, "You know, the sky is blue and the grass is green," he'd still be a fascist douchebag.

By way of analogy, Rupert Murdoch is a fascist douchebag. I'm sure he said this with the same joy that Paul Revere said "The Redcoats are coming."

When the Fox King says Democrats will win in November, it's not a kudo. It's a warning to his minions.

3. Good point, and I agree. But meanwhile, latest Electoral Vote polls:
These are interactive and updated daily. Have a good time, but remember, that November, isn't very far.......

The site also has congressional polls. I agree, polls are polls. Attach serious importance to them at your own risk. But they are the result of interviews with prospective voters........in all the states.

2. I think everyone sees the writing on the wall... well... ALMOST everyone.
It is fairly evident to most rational people that Obama is most likely our next President. We're going to see people of all backgrounds, status, and political leanings jumping on board the O-train. Everyone likes a winner! (And nobody likes a whining, complaining, excuses-laden also-ran)

4. The first words
of a long, long, long concession speech.

I look at Murdoch and McClellan and see them not so much as changing sides, but admitting that they are beaten, that their philosophy has sent the country into the crapper and they might as well give up. Which is good too, because they may just shut up for a while and allow the country to get back on course. That's a good theme to push this election season; you had your chance with Newt's 'Contract on America', you got your way getting a moron appointed to sit in the Oval Office and where has it gotten you? Four dollar a gallon gasoline, a mortgage crisis, a war that has no end, and a Charmin-like dollar. Time to step aside and let the people who DON'T go around saying government is broken fix things.

5. Murdoch is a businessman
His bottom line far exceeds the value of his ideology. He will curry favor with whoever is in charge and part of his success lies in predicting the tides of the market. He knows which way the current is flowing.
