The inevitable end of the primary
36 Hours to Go : Call Puerto Rico

Obama plans election kick-off at GOP convention site

Senior political officials tell Politico's Mike Allen that Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).is likely to hold a huge rally Tuesday night in the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, the site of the Republican National Convention from Sept. 1 to 4.

Tuesday is the night of the final Democratic primaries, and the choice of venue is a mischievous, aggressive way for Obama to unofficially kick off the general election campaign against Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.). The location gives huge meaning to the moment, with Obama likely to frame a tough case against his new opponent in the very hall where McCain will accept his party’s nomination.

Pelosi Warns Clintonites: No "Scorched Earth" Approach

By Greg Sargent - May 30, 2008, 5:00PM

Nancy Pelosi, in an interview today, cranks up the warnings to Clintonites who may or may not be plotting to take things all the way to the convention:

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Friday warned supporters of Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who are threatening to take the delegate fight as far as the Democratic National Convention, that they are pursuing "a scorched earth philosophy" that would seriously damage the chances of electing a Democratic president in November.

"There is too much at stake in our country for us to be thinking that we can afford the luxury of intra-party battles eight weeks before the election," said Pelosi, in her strongest words yet on the battle over seating delegates from Florida and Michigan.

Meanwhile, Hillary struck an even tone today when asked about pressure from party leaders to end this, saying: "I think that after the final primaries people are going to start making up their minds. I think that's the natural progression that one would expect."

The question, though, is whether the Clinton camp will fight on even after the super-dels have made up their minds.

6. I heard her quoted exactly as the other poster said..it will be over soon... nothing contradictory.
Even the progressive talk show hosts are switching topics -- focus on McClellan, and the release of the movie "Sex and the City." (At least, on Thom Hartmann and Randi Rhodes' shows today.)

5. Me, too, ProSense. Thanks for posting. Everybody's had their say...
here, elsewhere, etc. Let's just get on with this thing and return to our regularly scheduled pre-election volatility.

Next week, we'll be at the local Farmer's Market giving out literature for all the Democrats downticket. Let's just hope there are some coattails from the Prez and Vice Prez to knock the socks off Senator Gordon Smith (R), who seemed to support the Democrats, but when it came to voting, it was right down the Republican line.

Peace, love and happiness,

Radio Lady in Oregon

Obama coming to Minnesota

ST. PAUL (AP) - Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama is coming back to Minnesota.

Obama is scheduled to speak Tuesday evening at Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul. That's according to Tina Smith, senior adviser to the Obama campaign in Minnesota.

The event is free and open to the public.

The last time Obama appeared in Minnesota was the weekend before last February's "Super Tuesday." The Illinois senator drew almost 20,000 to the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis.

More details of Obama's appearance will be announced in the next couple of days.

11. RBC decision:
By a 19-8 vote, a compromise allocating Michigan's pledged delegates by a 69-59 forumla -- but counting each by just half a vote -- has just passed the DNC Rules and Bylaws Committee.

The compromise will give Clinton 34.5 delegates and Obama 29.5 delegates. It would also seat all of Michigan's superdelegates but also give them just half a vote. Moreover, it would make the magic number to clinch the Democratic nomination 2,118.

A motion that would seat the entire Florida delegation and give them all a half vote just passed unanimously.

That measure would net Clinton 19 pledged delegates (Clinton picks up 52.5, Obama gets 33.5, and Edwards 6.5).

In addition, all Florida superdelegates will be seated, but with half a vote each.
