Why can't the Dems start a campaign about drugs and alcohol
and how the repukes accomplished nothing with their "war on drugs" and then have someone bring out the issue of the DUI's * and cheney have. How come none of the 527' have come up with an add about *'s and Cheney's DUI's didn't at least one happen during the Vietnam War. They can not argue about whether it is true or not because it is. Then Kerry can denounce the add and say he does not support that kind of ad and say that * should discredit the "liars" about swift boat. He can still say that the DUI ads are true but they don't belong in the campaign and the swift boat ads surely don't belong because they are false.

1. Bush has never denied using
cocaine and his use is the likely reason why he avoided taking a phyical exam with a new requirement for drug testing while in the Texas Air nat. Guard.

2. I think that acting all overly
moral about drugs/alcohol is a fundie trick--and something that turns off swing voters.

I remember people hating Nancy Reagan in the day. We all used to make fun of "just say no" every time we saw her. I don't want the democratic party to be the morality police party. It turns off more people than it wins over in my opinion.

3. It's a very minor issue when you are out of work and your son/daughter
was just redeployed to Iraq/Afghanistan.

That would have maybe been helpful in 2000, but this election, the stakes are much, much, higher.

4. this is not a topic, in my opinion, that a lot of people would give
a high priority to right now.
