I hear about both campaigns in snippets, but no smear boat vets.

They aren't even talking about it as much over at Freeperville and the entire thing has been orchestrated by one of their own!

There are some bloody chunks here and there from the ultimate implosion of the story. They pushed it so hard that it called too much attention to itself(themselves?) and BOOM! They got waayy more than they asked for. Between Carville, Matthews and the Vets for Kerry, it was discredited well enough that they will stay low key if they know what's good for them.

13. They are going to destroy Kerry's campaign.

He has no chance to win now, because he refuses to publicly denounce them. He should call a press conference right now and call them liars and frauds, and defend his war record. He should start spending his federal money on ads refuting these pernicious liars, and showing them up for what they are. Because he isn't running for the presidency, he's running against the smearers, be they these people or the next group. And once he shows how tough he can be on these smearers, the rest of the Bush 527s are going to sit on their money and do nothing, intimidated by the force of Kerry's response. Defending yourself against these attacks works!

In fact, his whole campaign should be devoted to warding off the attacks of all the 527 groups. It won't help him win, but it will satisfy the 10% of DU who are fucking morons, and who insist that every single attack, no matter how absurd, warrants an all-out response from the Kerry campaign, even though the only thing it would do is give more publicity to the smearers.

Is put out the lie and smear, ignore the rebuttals, move on
to the NEXT smear. Hope that enough people have doubts (uncorrected
by rebuttal) that they either don't vote, or vote for *.

I think we will see them move on to the next "story".

The only thing that surprises me a little (and worries me too) is
the timing of the Un-swift boat vets. I would have figured this
for about 3 weeks before the election, not 9 or 10 weeks. This
either means that they have a lot of other Kerry smears lined up
OR they truly are planning a "September/October" surprise and
the resulting news coverage would push any "swift boat vets" crap
right off the air.
