Hiding Gay Republicans
DemFromCT, a poster on the Kos wesbsite, notes that the Ayatollahs of the Right are seeking to keep gay Republican gays out of sight during the convention. Are gay Republicans seriously considering going along with it? I certainly hope they don't.

President Bush and his political lieutenants want the Republican National Convention in New York this month to exude the same sense of unity that characterized the Democratic love fest in Boston.

But away from the spotlight, infighting appears about to break out over the GOP platform's stance on gay rights. The issue is important to the White House because the appearance of intolerance could sway critical swing voters.

1. Why in the hell would a gay person
want to be a Republican anyway? It's the party of intolerance.

2. Goes Back Before Ashcroft
Republicans used to defend privacy, although they defined it in an odd way. Now they've dropped all pretenses. Ashcroft wants to dig into everything. Got a credit card? Have same-sex leanings? John wants to know all about it.

4. I just finished arguing with a Bush supporting gay dude in a chat
Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 03:18 PM by jonnyblitz
room on gay.com. He told me I wasn't very open minded like "we liberals claim to be" because I called him on his "licking the boot that kicks him" syndrome he was suffering from and perhaps the BDSM chatroom on gay.com would be more to his liking. He went on about something about Kerry lieing about Cambodia or some esoteric thing that had NOTHING to do with ANYTHING relevent... :eyes:

9. It sounds like he's just misinformed
and spouting RW talking points. Too much Rush. I guess I can understand a person being swindled by propaganda, especially if they never hear from the other side. But that guy should know that republicans hate him. What does he think all that anti-gay marriage stuff is all about?

3. why should they be any different than the Dems?
aside from Barney's detour from his script and a passing mention from Obama, the word Gay was not mentioned by any majorspeaker, although Code was used at times.

11. Rep. Tammy Baldwin
She gave a great speech mentioning gay rights. She wasn't shouting "gay rights" during the speech, but made her plea just a normal request, which it really should be. Gay rights are just common sense upholding the equal protection clause of the constitution.

12. I project a much less unified Repug Convention
When people believe God is on their side, it's not as easy to shut them up. Watch for the anti-abortion crowd to raise a ruckus. Gay repugs are so browbeaten, they won't make a stink at all. They'll go along with being invisible. They're a pretty compliant bunch.

14. I can't remember where...
memory is going to shit...

But I read somewhere that the Log Cabin Repuglicans were meeting to discuss what, if any their role would be at the upcoming RNC. If memory serves one of the issues discussed was the fact that no one from the Shrubya re-selection campaign had contacted them about having any roll at all...

17. Wow,
I can't believe you know lots of gay conservatives! I have never met any in my life. Do they still support the republican party even after Bush proposed that amendment against gay marriage?

They would fight to their deaths to defend Bush/Cheney.
