"Ask President Bush"
http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&cid=1506&ncid=696&e=1&u=/afp/20040815/ts_alt_afp/us_vote_bush_ask

Billed as informal question-and-answer opportunities for curious voters to quiz the most powerful man in the world, the carefully choreographed campaign events usually recycle the central points from his stump speech.

While he has yet to face a hostile questioner, angry attacks on Democratic White House hopeful John Kerry abound.

In Beaverton, Bush supporters accused the Massachusetts senator of having a "fuzzy memory," of winning two of his five Vietnam war medals for "self-inflicted scratches."

But would-be Bush hecklers face daunting obstacles: Loyalists handle giving out tickets to the event; home-made signs and banners are often forbidden; and in some cases access hinges on signing a loyalty oath.

The result is a friendly crowd eager to see the candidate they hope will win the November 2 election, while authorities banish protesters to heavily policed sidewalks blocks away.

In fact, the only question that left Bush briefly at a loss for words in Oregon came from a child who stumped him by asking why a school superintendent who "makes 200,000 dollars" would fire the school librarian.

"I can't answer your question why. But Laura was a librarian, so maybe the superintendent ought to talk to the librarian, Laura. But, no, I don't know," the president said.

1. Well, that's the last time he'll be questioned by a child.
Kid will be lucky if he doesn't end up in Gitmo.

2. This makes me think of the little bit they used to run
on an NPR station I listened to when I lived in Cincinnati, called "Ask Dr. Science." Dr. Science was a pompous blowhard who never really knew the answer to the question the correspondent asked, but that certainly didn't keep him from pontificating, nossir!

"I'm not a real doctor. I have a master's degree -- in science!"

Or, perhaps just as relevant, the one they used to do at the end of some Ren and Stimpy shows. Pickles and the Dim Son remind me a bit of Ren and Stimpy -- except Ren was more intelligent than either of them.

5. Ok, couple questions:
We've heard this repeatedly, but WHEN and WHERE was Pickles a librarian?
Did George and Pickles meet in a library? (suppress laughter)
Was he reading, or collecting the days garbage?
As a librarian, how often did Pickles report on suspicious persons checking out such subversive literature as 1984 and any book by Greg Palast or Micheal Moore?
Has she taught Bush how to read yet?

He did read "my pet goat" to the children, so, she must have taught him.

8. He wasn't reading...
...he was just sitting and "collecting his thoughts". You should really see the footage.

9. To be strictly correct - signs are prohibited at Kerry rallies too.
Also, access is generally restricted to supporters, but maybe not so tightly controlled. However, they do not make the pretense of being an open forum. Access at Kerry rallies must be restricted to keep the Repugs from totally disrupting them as they always try to do.

10. Access to Kerry Rallies...
In reply to the person who said that access was restricted at Kerry Rallies...
I have been to two such rallies so far and have found that the only restriction is
that they don't let people bring in any large signs. Pieces of 8 1\2 by 11 paper seems
to be OK most of the time. I have seen them turn away or hold (always returning) signs
that are very pro Kerry. Maybe it is one of those crowd control measures. If don't let
pro Kerry signs in then you don't have to let the pro Bush stuff in either.

In a similar vein...

Protesters are allowed to protest right at the entrance to the events.
They are not held blocks away like at Bush and Co rallies.

I am getting tired of hearing Bush saying "I don't know People don't like me,"
"they are always cheering and waving and seem happy to see me."

I am frightened by the realization that our presidential appointee truly thinks that
the whole world, except 1 or 2 percent, just loves him to bits.
Just look in is his eyes when he answers theses sort of questions if you don't believe me.
He may be a very good liar but I don't think that he has ever been that good at anything
in his life based on his own ability.

One last thought and then end ...

At least 50% of the people are below average!
(too bad it looks like our pres. app. is in that group)

12. You should have seen him on Larry King Live.
It was frightening. He actually said he thinks Americans aren't angry and that the partisan divide is exaggerated.

15. Ask him, but be sure not to
tell him, or anyone around him, what you really think:

An unidentified supporter of President Bush tries to silence protester Kendra Lloyd-Knox (right) outside Southridge High School in Beaverton. Elsewhere in Portland, supporters of Democratic candidate Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., rallied on the waterfront.
