"this is the very first time I felt that God was in the White House"
Edited on Sun Aug-15-04 10:25 PM by cryingshame
The title of the NYTimes piece is "On the Road, Bush Fields Softballs From the Faithful". When they say faithful... they don't mean just to the GOP!

I hope the guy who said the highlighted quote doesn't mean that Junior is God!

By ELISABETH BUMILLER

(snip)

Last week alone, in Virginia, Florida, New Mexico and Oregon, Mr. Bush had four "Ask President Bush''
question-and-answer sessions with rapt Republican audiences. The week before he had one in Columbus,
Ohio, and this week he has one scheduled for St. Croix, Wis.

(snip)

Many times the questions aren't even questions at all. Exhibit A might be these words from an audience
member in Niceville, Fla., on Tuesday:

"I'm 60 years old and I've voted Republican from the very first time I could vote. And I also want to say this is the very first time that I have felt that God was in the White House.''

"Thank you,'' Mr. Bush replied, to applause.

(snip)

The result is often a love-in with heavily Christian crowds. Mr. Bush relaxes, shows off his humor and
appears more human than in his sometimes tongue-tied and tense encounters with the press. He clearly
relishes the sessions: As of this coming Wednesday in Wisconsin, Mr. Bush will have had 12 such campaign
forums, which is one less than the number of solo news conferences he has had in three and a half years in
the White House.

Of course, reporters write that the events are canned, but campaign officials care only about the lively
snippets of Mr. Bush that get on the local news.

1. Yep
"campaign officials care only about the lively
snippets of Mr. Bush that get on the local news."

The ol' smoke an mirrors....wait till the debates (if they ever happen)

Shrubby can't have enough "controlled" love fests to win ,
and the Jesus vote ain't gonna do it.

2. Don't you think God is pissed?
I think this pResident is in a lot of trouble with God.

I think God's people are going to take over the White House soon. They will feed the poor, provide treatments for the sick, house the homeless, love their neighbors, and honor their elders, as well as take care of the earth.

Wow, what a concept - wonder how Bush, with all his Christian values, missed it?

who God is!

Poor delusional soul. Hope he's not too hurt when his idea of "God" is sent back to Texas and we the People get back our Country!!

5. "Thank you," Mr. Bush replied???
What about all of the other presidents? He couldn't say a single good word about them? Even his dad? Even Ronald Reagan?

Bush couldn't say, "Thank you, but I believe that most of the leaders of our country have been men of faith."

Bush has zero class. Zero.

6. some people are just too stupid for words . . .
anyone who thinks that God placed the shrub in the White House (or, even worse, that the shrub is some kind of god-made-man) belongs in a loony bin . . . no belts, shoelaces, or sharp objects please . . .

9. This ridiculous comment supports my feelings about the scripted Bush.....
..."rallies".

Even those Republicans called on to speak are plants. I can't even see the most delusional Freepers actually referring to that dumb son of a bitch as "God" at least not in public. These people are probably actors planted in the crowd, not unlike what you would find at a Benny Hinn "faith healing" show.
