Schumer challenger takes out ads. . .bashing Bruce Springsteen?
August 16, 2004 -- MARILYN O'Grady, the long-shot Conservative Party candidate challenging Sen. Charles Schumer, has launched a TV ad campaign bashing Bruce Springsteen for his upcoming concert tour to unseat President Bush, reports The Post's Kenneth Lovett. "He thinks making millions with a song-and-dance routine allows him to tell you how to vote," O'Grady says in the ad. "Here's my vote: Boycott the Boss. If you don't buy his politics, don't buy his music." The commercials are set to run on Fox News Channel.

1. Good. Now will Republicans stop using "Born in the USA" as
their campaign theme music?

They think it's a rah rah song. Dumbasses.

I would suspect their taste runs toward garbage like Toby Keith and the Oak Ridge Boys....

It would be interesting to see if there are actual studies.....

15. A lot of Repubs in the northeast are fans...
until they hear about his activism and are shocked, shocked I tell you! by his un-American opinions. Isn't it amazing how people don't listen to lyrics?

20. Apparently, the same thing happened
on the Dave Matthews Band boards, VolcanoJen posted in the Lounge about a week ago about some guy who thought Dave Matthews ought to just shut up and play his guitar (to paraphrase Zappa). DMB is another one -- how in the hell can all these wingnuts listen to the lyrics of these songs for years and years, but only realize their heroes are liberals when they actually speak out about politics? I mean, I've been a liberal all my life, and while I won't listen to somebody simply because they express populist sentiments in their lyrics, I certainly try to avoid filling my brain with misogynistic junk like Ted Nugent, and I did even before I knew his politics.

I'd say it would be different if any of these bands/artists did facile, 'boy meets girl' pop songs all the time and then shot off their mouths about liberal politics ... but they write songs that clearly express sentiments that have always indicated populism/liberalism/'little guy'-ism, whatever 'ism' one would think would kind of tip them off that they're not conservative Republicans. And yet conservative Republicans only get pissed off when these guys say what they've been writing in their songs for decades. Don't ask me, man -- I can't figure that out, either.

3. Now there's a sure-fired way to win an election
they say Democrats are all about "feeling". The right wing is all about this type of "feeling". They just have to express their hate. Oooooooooo...but don't tell 'em its hate because then, you're denying them their right to free speech.

10. Repugs bashing Bruce on fan message boards
Hello, all.
This is my first post on DU. I am a life-long dem and a long-time Bruce fan. As soon as the Vote For Change tour was announced the many Bruce boards were bombarded by Repugs saying they'd never buy another cd, go to another show, etc. Hard to believe they didn't catch on when he did "The Ghost Of Tom Joad."
Thanks for letting me into the fold.
Walter

24. Welcome to DU!
We've all seen the waves of "coincidental" protests appear on boards whenever the Republicans are on the move. These posters are their hired disrupters - mostly kids hired to spread right-wing lies around the internet.

The disruptors don't believe what they are posting. They're working from a script and probably paid by the post. They are the political equivalent of telephone-sex girls. Ignore them.

Thanks for the welcome, y'all.
The same type of thing is happening over on the John Fogerty board on his website. "Deja Vu (All Over Again)" is a great song. If you haven't heard it yet, go to his site at:

Legend of Marilyn O'Grady

Marilyn O'Grady was always a little shady
She always had her head way up her butt (up her butt)
She'd blab and blab and thought she was quite pretty
a blind man might think she looked like a slut (like a slut)

Marilyn O'Grady was a Republican shill gal
always toting on the right-wing party line
She'd attack and spit like that wench Ann Coulter
She proved she was nothing more than a right-wing swine

Marilyn O'Grady likes her little Bring-Em-On Bushie
and Dick Cheney is a man she could let spew on her mug
they could dress up in nun outfits and spank her tushie
she could just lay there like a big fat slug

Marilyn O'Grady oh Marilyn O'Grady oh

26. Schumer is leading with 62%, Mills 13%, O’Grady 9%, why even bother?
In the U.S. Senate race, Democratic incumbent Charles Schumer leads Republican challenger Howard Mills 62 – 13 percent, with 9 percent for Conservative Party candidate Marilyn O’Grady.

Voters approve 59 – 22 percent the job Schumer is doing.

I doubt she has a lot of money to spend on commercials. Wouldn't it be better spent talking about the cool things she's going to do if elected?

Is there a complete list somewhere on DU of right wing artists? We know about Toby Keith, Britney Spears, Kid Rock, etc.

I'd like to know who else to avoid.
