NEW YORK - Federal agents and city police are keeping tabs on people they say might try to cause trouble at the Republican National Convention, questioning activists, making unannounced visits and monitoring Web sites and meetings.

3. We almost did a simultaneous post
My jaw's still on the floor! :wow:

"We're not engaging in surveillance of groups or individuals without legal predication," said Jim Margolin, spokesman for the New York office of the FBI.

Ann Roman, a spokeswoman for the Secret Service, said agents expect to respond to an increase in possible domestic threats against President Bush (news - web sites) and other dignitaries as the convention at Madison Square Garden nears. The Secret Service (news - web sites) is also playing a lead role in planning convention security.

"How we do that specifically, I'm not going to go into," she said.

Is this just a threat to frighten protestors? What "trouble" are they referring to? What's the "legal predication" found on websites?!!

Unbelievable. Again, I hope this backfires.

4. Good morning to any FBI folks who may be out there
My name is... well it may be available in my profile. I live in...the USA. I cannot make it to NYC for the convention, but will be there in spirit and wishing our DU brothers and sisters well. Oh and one more thing, why don't you go after some criminals? The protestors are just that, protestors. It is not likely that many of them wish harm to bush, just want him GONE! Back to Texas. I guess that freedom of speech is no longer an option here in America. One more thing(again), America can do better, and help is on the way. Have a good day FBI people.

5. Further note to FBI Investigators:
Don't you feel just a little stupid? Don't you feel like you career may just have hit a wall? Kinda like Fox Mulder made flesh? Sitting there in your cubicle, on a computer constructed by Og, The Computer Caveman, looking for signs of some impending RNC Apocalypse on a web discussion board?

You should.

So many real threats to sour society, from both within and without. So much real crime, and you are surfing, looking for that post that might cause tumescence in your Crime Fighter Nether Regions. To further the political aims of an administration that couldn't give a crusty fuck about you, or the citizens you are sworn to protect.

Don't get me started about the Constitution you are sworn to protect, as well. You know what I would say.

Enjoy your Dark Nights of The Soul. I am sure they show up as regular as clock work.

8. LOL
Reminds me of when we tried to take our pre-teen kids and their grandma to tour the FBI Building in D.C. A surly agent stopped us before we could even get near the doors and told us there were no tours. His manner was abrupt and unfriendly, and he made it clear that he thought we just might be terrorists.

As we walked away, my husband said, "So, who'd you piss off to get stuck with this assignment, Scully?"

(former X-Files addicts will get the reference) ;)
