I am watching * live in Traverse City....
He just stated his answer to the high healthcare costs is "medical lawsuit reform". He got a big cheer then made a slam at Edwards for being a trial lawyer.....Don't repugs realize that all those medical lawsuits have juries of average people that sit and listen to both sides and then make a choice whether someone should be liable. It is the only way to stop major corporations from raking us over the coals more than they do now....

1. My mother worked for a doctor for 11 years. She used to
pay his bills for him, including his medical liability insurance. She got very angry because he was always screaming about how high the malpractice insurance was, and she knew for a fact, since she paid his bills and billed his clients, that he earned the money to pay for his entire year's insurance in ONE AFTERNOON OF SURGERY. Did not even take a full day's pay. He had two very expensive cars, plus one for his wife; two homes, one at the ocean front. Meanwhile, my mother was hearing conversations between patients waiting to be seen. Many were on medicare or medicaid. One afternoon, two elderly gentlemen were saying how excited they were for a friend of theirs, who was also a patient there, because she was able to afford one pound of hamburger for herself that week.
After my mother had worked for this doctor for about 9-10 years, he suddenly decided that his wife would do the medicare/medicaid and other billings. My mother found that odd. She got another job and quit working for him. The next year, she saw his name in the paper:
a story about double billing medicare/medicaid.

2. thanks for the story....
so much has been sold to us about exorbitant malpractice rates. Why does blame go to the lawyers, not the incompetent doctors, or corporate insurance thieves?

3. DebJ, have you read "Four Trials" by John Edwards yet?
That book is chock-full of stories like that of your mother's. I really think she'd like that book, especially!

:D

4. Thanks for your input Debj......
Again, if repugs would look deeper than the skin of a grape... they would understand.

My wife is a Debj also...:)
