Check out the new Candidates page at DFA, Map and targeted issues.

Why These Races Matter...
State legislatures and local governments are the birthplace of the social, economic, and environmental policy that forms our national agenda. The only way to change our government is to compete and win in these races.

Democracy for America supports common sense candidates who are fiscally responsible and socially progressive. These candidates are the foundation that will help develop the talent that will shape DFA and the future of the Democratic Party. Many of these candidates are in tough races, and not all of them may win. However, they will all spread the message that to change America progressives must compete.

There is a drop down menu to search for targeted races by issue, and a way to search by zip code as well.

1. Why do people not realize how important congressional races are now.
This it the part of the election that will make or break our country as much or perhaps more than the presidency itself.

People just ignore this aspect, and all these wonderful candidates. Just 25 here, 10 there, or volunteering to help would make a huge difference.

2. I totally agree
For all the money and energy that is expended on the presidential race what happens in the congressional and state races probably affects peoples' day to day lives more.

Most likely Kerry is not going to win in Texas. But what we are trying to do in Austin is to get a big turnout that will hopefully humilate Bush* some, but more importantly win back a couple of legislative seats and some judicial races as well. We need to serve notice that we are on the way back.
