I am afraid Alan Keyes will win
Alan Keyes is going to win over all the independents in Illinois and win in November. Alan Keyes will then go on to be the Republican nominee in '08 and win that race too.

Alan Keyes has the "key" to Republicans winning for years and years to come. If the Republicans make Alan Keyes the keynote speaker at their convention we are doomed. Boy, I hope Republicans don't do that!

What are we going to now that Alan Keyes defines the Republican party in the minds of the voters?

1. What independent/swing voter is going to vote for a right wing, whacko?
Edited on Tue Aug-17-04 03:18 PM by oasis
He will not get 10 percent of that group. Being black he likely won't get all of the staunchly conservative GOP votes either since they are basically racists.

Keyes will be embarrassed come Nov. 2. He is already an embarrassment.

8. Wait a minute, there, Oasis, I think
there might be something to this. If Alan Keyes becomes the main spokesperson for the Republican Party (wink*wink) there will be no way to stop the GOP juggernaught (nudge*nudge). I sure hope the Republicans don't put Mr. Keyes front and center, no sirree, that would spell doom for the Democrats. Doom! I tell ya'! Doom!

David Duke got his ass kicked when he ran for office in Louisiana. He just got out of jail for tax fraud.

BTW, he got most of his campaign money by making speeches and raising money in rural Wisconsin, so careful how you further malign the much-maligned already south.

What are we going to now that Alan Keyes defines the Republican party in the minds of the voters?

That is something that should probably (hopefully not) be posted on Republican message boards all across the land.

What "WE" as in Democrats are going to do now that Keyes defines the Republican Party?

WIN A HELL OF A LOT OF ELECTIONS

I predict Keyes will get 12% of the vote...

on our part that persuaded them to run Keyes and doom our party, at least in Illinois, and maybe later on the national level. We should be more careful in the future. Now that we've built Obama up, it's be even more shameful for the Democrats and Keyes wins in a landslide.

If Illinois were a swing state this would be a different story. Illinois is one of the most liberal states in the country and Obama is probably one of the best politicians that we have. Not to mention that Keyes isn't from Illinois and he said that he disapproves of people running in states that they aren't from. I would say that Alan Keyes has less of a shot of winning, than the democrats do of taking back the house.

I wrote many letters in opposition to that show. His message was too powerful. I pulled every string I could to get his show removed from the air. I know thousands of other liberal minded people like myself who feared Keyes, even back then, who did the same thing.

57. Rove's best move yet.
Edited on Tue Aug-17-04 03:48 PM by foktarded
The Republicans have always found the most moderate, interesting, and agreeable people, like Alan Keyes and Ann Coulter (imagine the damage done to us if both Keyes and Coulter spoke at the RNC, both endorsing Bush as a Crusader of God), prop them up as important figures and fool everyone into thinking their party is mainstream. I gotta congratulate that bastard on this move. Also, please stop making comments like "I hope you're joking" and "You're being sarcastic, right?" If you have facts to argue with, use them. This is not freerepublic.com.

last year that Arnold didn't have a chance. One state senator named Joe Dunn discussed Arnold's guaranteed failure in great detail and the Dems just shone on the race as if it were a cake-walk for the Dems.

98. That particular event was unique and does not have a whole lot of meaning
beyond itself.

Just ask the CA GOP, who are scratching their head because they can't figure out why the popularity of Arnold, the pro-choice, socially liberal mega film star, isn't rubbing off on the idiotic, inept pro-life candidates that make up the rest of the party. Actually, Arnold being in the governor's house is a real blessing in disguise this year... because Gray Davis, bless his soul, was about as popular as a bad rash-- in part, yes it's true, because he had the personality of a garden slug and he really didn't do a whole helluva lot to keep his fellow democrats happy- he spent most of his time playing patty-cake with the prison guard's union. So, now the CA GOP doesn't have him as a convenient foil, and as a result the people of California are not distracted from the fact that the agenda of the Republican party is grossly out of whack with what the majority of Californians believe. Now, I firmly believe that the whole Arnold thing was a setup with Enron and Kenny Boy Lay (and probably Cheney, skulking around there somewhere) but we will deal with that, and Ahhhnold, at the appropriate time- in 2006.

90. MORE BAD NEWS--Look at this media coverage:
Keyes Will Force Debate On The Real Issues

By THOMAS F. ROESER

CHICAGO — In football terms: With his back to the goalposts, limping with injuries and the clock running out, the Illinois GOP’s quarterback faded back hurriedly and threw a long, spiraling pass far over the heads of the players to a lone receiver whose arms were extended in a seemingly hopeless attempt to receive it. It was, in fact, truly a "Hail Mary" pass brilliantly completed. Who was the quarterback? An amalgam of several all-but-faceless Republican committeemen. Yes, I know, like you I wince whenever sports commentators refer to last desperation tosses as "Hail Mary." Or when Gen. Norman Schwarzkopf referred to it in a military briefing. Used for sports or battle, it seems irreverent.

But for a party to recruit the nation’s most articulate defender of the Judeo-Christian ethic, one of the outstanding lay Catholics in the nation today, the term fits. And the Hail Mary pass completed here two weeks ago was a final appeal to a superbly equipped intellectual athlete to rescue a party that once stood for human rights. And draft pick Alan Keyes (a frequent speaker at Wanderer Forums) jumped up in faraway Maryland to catch the ball, becoming the first candidate in modern U.S. history to be truly begged by his party to run for the Senate.

Other recent out-of-state candidates, Hillary Rodham Clinton and Robert Kennedy, had arranged for inside pals to "urge" them to run. Keyes had literally no one on the 19-member Republican State Central committee who knew him personally. One did — only by reputation. But that reputation, for courage and brilliant cognitive acumen, was enough.

In an earlier piece I reported somewhat on the agony of the state GOP. Henry Hyde and a few others notwithstanding, Lincoln’s party here has fallen upon evil days. For decades its fortunes were in the hands of pro-abort relativists, Governors Jim Thompson and Jim Edgar, whose bywords were to meld indistinguishably with the ascendant liberal Democratic philosophy.

94. For anyone who missed all the snorting, cackling,
and wiping of eyes, I am a proud, rural southern Illinois voter. I listened to Obama speak twice, and I found him to be the proud owner of a nimble, agile mind, eloquent and forceful. I found his convention speech, contrary to all the adulation, adequate to good. I voted for him in the primary, over several others who seemed to be better equipped. He is a good man who will win the election. I've also seen Keyes a few times over the years, and noticed he has one gear- you push this button, he plays this tape, that button, that tape. His mouth seems to flap on command with no direction and apparently no control. Also no originality. He reminds me of the ex mayor of east St.Louis. With absolutely zero redeeming social value. His only purpose in this round is so, at least, Obama doesn't fall into the job with no opposition whatsoever.

the GOP decides to throw LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF MONEY (not to mention media attention) at Mr. Keyes. Why, with a big barrel full of cash that could be spent elsewhere, on less important races, there's no telling what that towering intellect could do to Barak Obama!

GOD, I HOPE THE REPUBLICANS DON'T START SENDING BIG DONATIONS TO KEYES --- EN MASSE!

as we know it with a huge landslide in Illinois, followed by the Presidency in '08, that the GOP will begin naming things after him, beginning with changing O'Hare airport to Keyes Field. Oh, the groundswell of support is amazing.

107. Falwell and Robertson at GOP Convention
I saw an interview with Jerry Falwell recently. He said that he and Pat Robertson would be at the convention and that they would be pleased to offer prayer, and to address the convention if asked. However so far, he said, that invitation has not been forthcoming. I guess we can breathe a sign of relief that these holy men have not been invited to address the convention. However if that changes, then we are DOOMED! They might well annoint George II as our new king and Savior, recognizing that GOD speaks to him! Then with Saints Keyes and Coulter and Cheney at his side, who would DARE not vote for the Anointed of GOD???
