vote democrat so you won't have to work
an articLe in the boston gLobe covers the struggLe by nader to get on baLLots and his die hard supporters trying to get signatures. i reaLLy Love the end of the articLe (which covers repubLican support of nader's candidacy):
------------------------------------
"The Republican thing is highly exaggerated," he said. "We're doing our best to avoid Republican Party Machiavellian activity, but we're much more concerned with the Democratic Party being antidemocratic, and their attempt to deny voters a choice, because they don't trust the voters and they don't trust their candidate."

Zeese said about 5 percent of the money donated to Nader so far has come from people who also support Republicans, and that "a lot of that 5 percent are people who actually support Nader."

In Ohio, Coyle doesn't ask any questions.

"Anybody who hit the website and said, 'I want to get petitions signed,' I put them in an envelope and sent them," she said. "I didn't ask their affiliation. I asked if they wanted a button, too."

And she certainly didn't ask Maria Snyder, an elderly woman with a black bob and a purposeful walk, why she signed her petition on that hot afternoon earlier this week.

But after she got out of Coyle's earshot, Snyder let it rip.

"I don't want those Democrats," she said. "I've had enough of these giveaway programs. Let them all go to work like the rest of us."

1. So I wasn't doing anything for 13 years!
Gee, if I hadn't been diagnosed with congestive heart failure in 1998 I might have had to really, really work for the US Postal Service the last four years. I guess I just dreamed I carried mail for eight years of Clinton.

2. Vote Democrat so you'll HAVE a job!
Honestly, what the hell do these stupid people think Bush's policies have done to so many of us? They've thrown us out of work as the economy has gone from sour to stagnant to depressed!

4. How will you like it when they get rid of your "giveaway program" grandma?
Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 10:32 AM by pse517
The Republicans aren't big fans of protecting your Social Security or your pension if you're lucky enough to have one of those. Hope you don't need that heart pill too badly when you reach the donut hole in your Medicare prescription drug coverage.

By the way, how'd you like that giveaway of the Social Security surplus called the Bush Tax Cut?

Once they shit that up, you can go back to work like the rest of us. Better hope the local WalMart is hiring greeters and be prepared to work lots of unpaid overtime. Be sure to punch out for all your bathroom breaks too because voiding on the clock is prohibited, you miserable freeloader.

Also, I wonder who she means when she says "them?" I wish she would clarify that for me because I really can't even venture to guess.

6. This is one of those myths that we need to fight
So many people think of Democrats as being a party that "makes people dependent". They think of social programs as "welfare" and that's as far as they can see.

My daughter who has become quite right wing brought that crap up to me. I pointed out that she has benefited from a vast array of social programs - WIC, which I got when she was little, hot lunch programs in school, a program through her high school that helped poorer kids prepare for college, financial aid programs, the state's health benefits program for children, etc. etc. When people think "social programs" so many of them think, "welfare".

unemployment. Never had a problem in the 8 years prior holding down a job. In fact, I turned down several positions in that golden era.
