Candy Crowley reminds everybody Kerry ordered Swiss cheese!!
With a little help from Karl Rove, this was dredged up yesterday apparently from a year ago.

CROWLEY: Now, you all know that in election years, nothing goes unanswered. Nothing. But sometimes responses take a little while.

We want to begin this story about a year ago, when John Kerry went to Philadelphia and a famous cheese steak place called Pat's. There he ordered, of course, a cheese steak, but he ordered it with Swiss cheese. That's kind of a food faux pas in Philadelphia. You're supposed to order it with Cheez Whiz, maybe American, but Swiss cheese, definitely a faux pas.

Now who notices these kinds of things? As it turned out, the Bush campaign did. Did we mention that the president was near Philadelphia today?

(BEGIN VIDEO CLIP)

GEORGE W. BUSH: You know, this is my 32nd visit to your state since I've been president. A lot of people wonder why I'm coming so much. It ought to be obvious to you; I like my cheese steak Wiz with.

(END VIDEO CLIP)

CROWLEY: There were also complaints at the time that John Kerry took dainty bites of his Philadelphia cheese steak. Unfortunately, the president did not get into that.

"Unfortunately?" Why, because she couldn't waste time discussing something else completely irrelevant instead of healthcare, jobs, foreign policy, education, deficits, or anything else of substance?

3. Uhm. . . I honestly don't know what a philly cheese steak is---
yeah, yeah, yeah, you can order them around here (South Carolina) but they aren't a native cuisine in these parts so I wouldn't know if someone ordered theirs correctly or not--if this doesn't show you how desperate these folks are, I don't know what else does! And I hope Candy Crowley chokes on the next one she tries to eat!

4. Holy crap--this is the media's concept of a political faux pas?
What if he just prefers the bloody swiss? Isn't that strong leadership not to pander shamefully and dishonestly?

You also dredged up this bit of whoring earlier--of all the times for Wolf to start qualifying his guest's assertions:

MICHAEL HAINEY, "GQ" MAGAZINE DEPUTY EDITOR: Well, we had two. I ordered the first one, which was Budweiser, and then, Kerry showing his Boston roots, ordered Guinness and he was very happy with that.

BLITZER: So was it fun? Because a lot of people asked the question, would you rather go out and have a beer with George W. Bush or John Kerry? Until now most people, I suspect, most men would have thought George W. Bush. But what did you think?

HAINEY: Well, you can't have a beer with Bush. So there's your problem there. But I would -- I felt enormously lucky to have a beer with Kerry. He's a terrific drinking partner, and it truly shocked me. I mean at "GQ," that was part of our test was this guy is seen as so stiff and, you know, sort of awkward. And I got to tell you, that sort of going elbow-to-elbow with him over a table, over a couple beers, was a real treat for me.

BLITZER: You could have a nonalcoholic beer with the president couldn't you?

But they like cheese. And skiing. The Swiss love to ski. Kerry likes skiing. And fondue, too. You see? He is kinda Swiss.

Oh yeah. And they like secretive banks. Kerry looks like he's hiding something. Like I told you- Swiss.

And if they're anything like the French, real 'muricans can't trust them, right?

hehehe...

Now let me return the favor and give you a good laugh by describing the American image:
- No matter where they go, they take the car
- They eat steaks bigger than their plates
- They like parades
- They wear cowboy hats

Just a note from personal experience. The Swiss are decidedly anti-Bush, mystified by his RELATIVE appeal, but extremely decent to individual Americans.

every voter in America to consider what it would be like if the Candy Crowley's were not in existence during this election phase. Imagine, just imagine, for a moment if your brain cells were entirely free of this type of mental mania.

Everybody go to your safe place. The Zen of the election year. Find your happy spot.

No Candy Crowley? Feel smarter? More in control? Less likely to bite someone's head off? More interested in the real issues of America today?

Right. These pundits, these political performers, are feeding off our brain cells. Starve the beasts. Ignore their garbage. Without an audience, they will cease to exist.

18. Dubya's nickname for Candy--"Candy-leeza"--cause she's as smart as Condi!
http://www.polkonline.com/stories/021401/opi_g-dubya.shtml

By NORM ORNSTEIN and AL FRANKEN
Special to the Los Angeles Times

<>The first sign that Bush would use nicknames as a bonding technique came during the campaign when he assigned a name to each member of the traveling press corps. CNN's Candy Crowley drew the name "Candy-leeza" because, he told her, she and Condoleezza Rice were the smartest women he knew. The president has continued to use the same nicknames now that he's in the White House, although not always with an eye toward comity. "(New York Times reporter) Adam Clymer kept his nickname," Fleischer said.

I've eaten plenty of Philly cheese steaks (including ones eaten in Philadelphia). I'm sure I would have noticed cheezwiz had it been present.

I've made them at home using Swiss, and it is a very tasty option indeed.

Not that any of this should matter in the context of a Presidential Election, of course.

20. Hey! Check out this recipe!!
A Philadelphia Cheese Steak is a sandwich meeting the following criteria: It is made with a submarine or Hoagie roll (an oblong, typically 6" or 12" piece of latitudinally-sliced French or Italian bread); and contains a thinly-sliced, grilled piece of steak; Swiss or Mozzarella cheese; and possibly other ingredients including grilled onions, mushrooms, and/or pizza sauce (a Pizza Steak).

23. Here's another one
A good cheesesteak shop will offer a variety of toppings or selections.
--CHEESE: Some offer different types of cheeses. To most native Philadelphians, provolone is the best cheese. But some places will offer American, Cheddar, and some of the bigger, more popular places in Philly offer Cheez-Whiz. These seem to be more popular among tourists than natives, but like anything else, this is a personal choice. The main thing is that they at least offer provolone, and that you have a few options.

Maybe we should compile a list of links and send them to Candy.

16. Does not the Philly Cheesesteak predate Cheez-Whiz?
Has Crowley compiled the history of the Cheesesteak? I am sure it is older than processed artificial cheese food. And which would be the healthier choice? Processed artificial cheese food or natural Swiss cheese? Do we not want a healthy president?

Anybody here have problems with Cheez-Whiz or Velveeta? I love to melt a block of Velveeta and mix in a can of Rotel diced tomatoes & peppers and use it as a dip for Fritos, but my guts can't take that crap anymore. Imagine if you were on a campaign and had a case of the trots!

I love stopping in at an old vintage diner and having a ham & cheese omelet with American cheese. Now, I suppose some right wing asshole like Crowley would turn this into a smear by saying that it's supposed to have chedder. Well, I don't want chedder. I want what is my choice. I have freedom of choice in this country and I prefer small, vintage diners to large chains like Denny's, and I prefer American cheese on my omelets, and I prefer Swiss cheese if I make a Steak-ums sandwich.

Why does Candy Crowley hate choice? Why does Candy Crowley hate those who choose to make healthy choices? Why does Candy Crowley hate freedom? Why does Candy Crowley hate America?

How about CNN telling Crowley to shove her anti-democratic, anti-choice, anti-intellectual bullshit and get on to reporting news instead of courting ignorance and hatred. Or just tell her to collect her things and go. America does not need our media deliberately trying to tear this country into pieces.

My aunt was selling them from her roach coach in the mid 60's at construction sites around Philly. I don't remember what kind of cheese was used except I know it didn't come from an can. My aunt would have looked at you like you were nuts if you asked her to spray something on a sandwich from a can and said, "I got sliced cheese. You want it or not?"

46. That's what I thought. I KNOW Food Network has done something on this.
Crowley is talking out of her ENORMOUS ass (well, it is...).

Isn't anyone in Philly calling her on this? I mean, Philly is supposed to be a tough town, where folks do not unnecessarily accept solid animal waste. This known tradition of the Untaking of the Shit leads me to believe that they would defend the sacred and TRADITIONAL Cheesesteak recipe from the gluttonous rage of a hateful media assasin.

Cheez Whiz? Hell, look at the name! "Cheez" is not a word, and whiz is slang for urine. Cheez Whiz = non-food waste product. POISON!

Oh, if only for the lack of a media empire.

25. Swiss Cheese Lesson 1

There is NO Swiss Cheese as such.
Yes, I know your talking about the one with the big holes.

Switzerland is abundant with different kinds of cheese and the one which is generally called "Swiss" abroad is actually "Emmentaler", a cheese originating from the Emmental region, the valley of the river Emme.

Although being the most famous kind of cheese from Switzerland it is far from being the tastiest... but then again, maybe you would want to try the hundreds of others. Cheeses varying color from yellow to red and green and black. Consistency varying from rockhard to soft as butter. And tastes .. oh the tastes...

34. Surreal
saw this shit last night.

I think it was Countdown with Keith.
He made fun of the whole thing.
Apparently, if your in Philly, and your keeping it real, and your looking to clog a GODDAMN artery, there is only one way to order your Philly cheese steak sandwich.

You are supposed to say "with whiz".
Which of course means they are going to dump a bunch of cheese whiz on this tasty little beauty.

Chimpy the unelected fraud Chimpster was there last week and made a big deal about knowing how to order a Philly cheese steak sandwich.

"I know enough to order my cheese steak sandwich with whiz"

God what a fucking tool this asswipe is.

I HATE HIM, and I can't wait until he is out on his ass, and then one night in a drunken haze of BIBLICAL proportions, DEMONS appear and rip his diseased soul of his chimp like chest cavity and show it to him as he spills his Crown Royal all over himself.

I hate this prick like I have hated no other before him.
I can't wait until November.

Kept it short and sweet:

Cheez Wiz? Send this lady back to school for journalism, or get her a cooking show! We are choosing a President. What the hell are you people doing?

40. ditto - did the same thing
also told that that I am watching CNN only to make lists of advertisers, then calling each and every advertiser to tell them that while they support Crowley's presence on CNN, I am boycotting their products.

Crowley vs. a lamp post.

at least the lamp post illumiinates. But both are worthy of doggie visits.

41. She's criticizing "dainty bites?"
She's obviously forgotten Rule #1 of campaign photo-ops:

NEVER LET THEM SEE YOU EAT.

If Kerry was scarfing down on a cheesesteak, it would have been much worse. He can nibble, taste, and take dainty bites all he wants- but inhaling a large sandwich does not a good photo op make.

42. yup
...especially a large, messy sandwich. If it had ended up all over his shirt, Crowley would have bitched and sneered at that, too.

51. Did Candy pre-empt "Crossfire"--AGAIN--for this?
The only time I see Candy is when I've set my VCR and am expecting to see Carville or Begala. Whenever I see Candy Crowley instead, I am not pleased.

65. to be honest, i've never even heard of eating cheez wiz on a philly
steak sandwich. i don't eat cheez wiz. period. it's disgusting to me. but i always thought that you can pick the type of cheese to go on it: mozzarella, provolone, meunster, swiss, etc. i'm not sure why there is such a hoopla except that some people on the right are desperate for something to gnaw on.

66. This was on Countdown with Olberman last night
I hate to break it, but they all have the same damn worthless clips and talking points.

I think the Countdown is the BEST news show on the air right now-(next to the "fake" Daily Show) but still...it's disapointing that they all do the same worthless crap. However, just saw that dainty bites bit-Olberman had the grace to spare that.

Bush: 38
Kerry: 53

I guess not so many people need cheese steaks.

73. Clearly, only blue-blooded elitists eat swiss cheese...
If Kerry wants to be known as a man of the people, he needs to consume more processed cheese products. Don't they speak French in Switzerland? There you go!

:-)
