Swift Boat Danger

It takes guts to patrol the rivers in enemy territory. Snipers have all the advantages - cover from the shrubbery and an open target that they can hear coming from a distance. Manning a patrol boat is dangerous duty.

People who've never seen combat have no right to impugn John Kerry's bravery. His purple hearts are fully earned whether his wounds were disabling or not. A shrapnel wound in the arm could just as easily have gone in the eye.

I'm disgusted at the results of a Google search on swift boat danger. The entire first page is taken up with hits attacking Kerry or implying that his medals are un-earned. It takes gall for Kerry's detractors to call him cowardly.

The problem is that the guy doing the most attacking (O'Neill) is the boat commander who took over Kerry's boat when he left. So I'd imagine they faced similar dangers. But HE is doing plenty of lying. Same problem with the spin of insulting the so called "swift vets" for attacking a decorated hero. They had many of the same medals. And THEY don't seem to tell the truth all the time.



This isn't an issue of how dangerous the boats were (My father was riverine warfare as well). It's honesty.

9. You are correct. The severity of a shrapnel wound is secondary.

When shrapnel is flying, your hanging with Fate. An inch to the left or 2 inches to the right mean the difference between a bandaid, stiches, a lost limb, or death.

Kerry tempted Fate at least 3 times in service to his country....how many times did Bush put himself in that position?
