I worked in a very anti-female environment. I can guarantee you that having a female president wouldn't have helped me a bit unless the EOC was given a good kick in the butt and put to work. Electing Barack won't do a thing for the millions of black men now in prison or with a prison record unless that problem is addressed directly. The gender or race of the person in the Presidency can be a nice message, but what really matters is what is done for the people at the bottom.

1. Being in a minority myself I can tell you that it is uplifting to know that even "you"
can be the President.

Perhaps the intangibles are as relevant as the tangibles.

3. I hear you on that. My Mom is supporting Obama because she has
two mixed race grandchildren. I am thinking of the people so upset because a woman isn't going to be our nominee that they are missing the fact that millions of women don't have a decent wage, decent child care, decent housing, decent health care etc. What if Elizabeth Dole were running instead of McCain? Would we women be better off selecting Dole or Obama? Who is being punished if McCain is elected? The Democratic Party or women in general?

2. Maybe Obama can be a role model for those with no hope, maybe he can wake the rest of us the hell up
to say what the hell is going on in our country?? If we all wake up, can we change things going on around us? I think we can, and I think that's the message....

4. Excellent point on this. After he became the nominee, the world celebrated with dozens of
front pages with Obama's picture displayed. How many celebrated when McCain won?

The world is watching.

5. Ending wealth inequality is Edwards' theme
Hope Obama focuses on this as well. As for women - we're likeable enough.

:)
