Are First Time Voters/Newly Registered Voters Included in Polls?
Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 05:17 PM by The Nation
I was just wondering, because me and a lot of my friends (I am 18) have only just registered this year and never voted before, but ALL of us will make it to the polls and vote for Kerry.

Are we considered 'likely voters' in polls, or no?

Also, a lot of adults I know who have never voted before will be voting against Bush this year as well, would they be included in 'likely voters'?

Inquiring minds WANT TO KNOW! :bounce:

1. It is my understanding that they are not...
only those that had voted in 2000 and state that they intend to vote in 2004 are considered likely voters.

Voters like you and those that have been registered for ages and will vote this time around are under the radar. So much the better.

2. Usually likely voters are voters who voted in the last election.

.
You can only be a "likely" voter if you have a track record of voting.

Different models use different things to mark you as a "likely" voter, but probably newly registered voters are NOT counted as likely voters.

That's why the polls showing "likely" voters aren't all that indicative of what's really happening out there. This is favorable to Kerry being more ahead than the polls of "likely" voters show.
