2. Deal!
I'm superstitious also.

I have this 'Greek tragedy' thing in my head where we feel really great and confident and atop the world right now, but that it could come crashing down in a matter of hours. A gaffe, a bombing, a trip at a large event.. it's stressful..

4. Hey! Its one of my favorite songs! No Dice!
Landslide
by Fleetwood Mac

(Stevie Nicks)
I took my love and I took it down
Climbed a mountain and turned around
And I saw my reflection in the snow-covered hills
'til the landslide brought it down
Oh, mirror in the sky -What is love?
Can the child within my heart rise above?
Can I sail through the changin'...ocean tides
Can I handle the seasons of my life?
I don't know.....I don't know
Well I've been afraid of changin'
because I've built my life around you
But time makes you bolder, even children get older
And I'm getting older too....
So, take my love...take it down
Climb a mountain and turn around
and if you see my reflection in the snow-covered hills...
well the landslide will bring it down
The landslide will bring it down

18. BELIEVE?
Who is so pessimistic? Do you believe you can run four years and not create a single job and be successful? I believe that the VAST Majority of people in our great country will close the voting booth screen, Think to themselves 'Am I better off than I was 4 years ago?' and say HELL NO. That leads to a democratic sweep. How SWEET

All the people who were stranded after their vehicles were cut off by two landslides near the central Scotland village of Lochearnhead have been airlifted to safety...

Landslide: 57 airlifted to safety

Is that okay? :pals:

12. Me too
Plus the polls will change after the Elephant product roll out. This is going to require a very concerted effort right through Nov 2. Think Kerry's got it, and we could let up. The polls change, and there could be a huge let down

ok, enough. Let's just stay with the superstition theme :toast:

14. There's A BETTER Argument Than Superstition!
Don't talk about jinxes Will! You're smarter than that!

The better argument is one against complacency. If we start thinking landslide and others start thinking it, it could hurt turnout. We need the most massive turnout EVER in this election and talk of landslides might make some people think their vote is not necessary.

15. That's weird
Just before I got on DU tonight I was thinking about the * screen names. Another DUer had remarked to me that there's going to be a lot of pointless screen names after January and I was thinking superstitiously that that's probably a good thing and we should have more destined-to-be-obsolete screen names.

I am already worried about even winning without the hubris of landslide being tossed around.

We need to make every voter think their vote matters because it will.

19. Wet blanket party
Edited on Wed Aug-18-04 06:45 PM by BillyBunter
In 2000, Gore trailed Bush, 56 - 39% the day before the Democratic Convention. We know how that one ended.

There is s jobs report coming out in less than two weeks. Who knows what it will say?

We are facing a cynical, amoral opponent, who will do almost anything to avoid the shame of going the way of his father.

Their convention is coming up. Again, who knows what kind of bump they could get?

No sitting president in history has lost with the economic numbers that have come out over the past year. It has never happened, people.

Two weeks before the Democratic Caucuses in Iowa, it looked like Dean was going to roll over the field. Didn't quite work out that way.

There are about 80 days now until the votes are cast -- and counted. Let's make it a point to do some good for the Kerry campaign -- and ourselves -- between now and election day.

importantly, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE TODAY TO DEFEAT CHIMP? I ask myself that question every day, and mostly have done some proactive thing, canvass, handout literature, write letters (I Just got another published). I Know I'm relentless, but it's one of my defining characteristics.

22. It was never going to be a "landslide"

no matter what we all think of * and Cheney.

The race will tighten up after the Repugs have their convention
(but its not a convention bounce, its just the nature of these
things).

It could be not all that close in the electoral college, especially
if we can keep Florida and Ohio in the Kerry column. But not a
blowout there either.

And beware of October surprise and/or BBV.

Kerry wins the popular vote by 5 to 8.

29. I support not saying landslide in August September October and November.
When I heard Bush would be running against Gore - I said no way. When I read an astrological prediction that Bush would be President I said no way.

The article didn't say he would win, it only said that he would be President. It also included substantiation in astrology-speak that I couldn't follow except to know that is was a complex and confusing prediction. I still said no way.

Best to be 'uncocky' because we're up against 'unamericans'.

32. I was so superstitious
during the 2000 election that I thought if I mentioned the incredible. blatant media bias I was noticing on the cable news channels to anyone I'd jinx the election. I swear to God that's true. So I never mentioned how angry I was about the coverage to ANYONE until after the election was decided by the * court. Not even my husband knew how angry I was about the media, and he is a very sympathetic, very liberal, wonderful life partner. Well, needless to say, the floodgates were ready to burst when the * went down. But my rigid adherance to my superstitious "feeling" got me nowhere. We "lost", if you want to call it that. So this year? No superstitions, baby! I'm letting it rip!! ( I sill won't say the "L"word, Will, out of deference to you).:dem:

33. This election is ALL about turn out!!!
If you start using the "Landslide" word it makes people think that their vote won't count or that it will be trivial.

THAT IS THE WRONG THING TO DO!!!

Every vote counts and everyones vote will be important. We HAVE HAVE HAVE HAVE to get people to the polls. This is a must!
