Senator’s secret love: Coed tells steamy tales of Kerry affair

A writer and former Harvard student said she had a steamy secret 20-month fling with Sen. John Kerry, who cooked for her, whispered to her in French and shared intimate nights with her in his Back Bay bachelor pad.

And Lee Whitnum told the Inside Track that even though the early '90s affair left her ``heartbroken,'' she still backs her ex in his bid for the White House.

``I was madly in love and he broke my heart,'' she said. ``That man broke my heart.''

Whitnum, a novelist who has written a fictional account of her affair with the White House wannabe, said she met Kerry when she was a twentysomething Harvard grad student and he was a divorced 45-year-old senator seeking his second term in office.

``He's a pretty intoxicating man - and a pretty determined guy when he wants something,'' she said. ``It was very romantic.''

And even though the relationship ended badly, Whitnum said she will still vote for Kerry in November.
