My "To Do" list for President Kerry
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 09:01 AM by madmax
I realize that there are issues of more importance and urgency than those on my list. However, it's my belief that no President or House can accomplish work that is in the best interests of the people if we don't address these issues.

Please comment, submit ideas or challenge. :)

In no particular order.

Appoint a Blue Ribbon Commission to investigate and recommend how to improve or change the following:

Media concentration in the hands of a few. Bias reporting etc. Breath life back into the Fairness Doctrine or something like it.

Federally fund federal elections.

Limit the number of lobbyists in Washington to 6 per Congressional member. Three who represent business sector and 3 who represent the public interest.

Amend the Constitution to eliminate the Electoral College.

Re-build the wall separating church and state.

No Commission needed for this. Appoint liberal/moderate judges to the USSC.

On edit: Paper trail voting machines!!!!

6. Here's a link
"Congress will be trying to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine within the next few weeks. Let your representatives know how you feel about it. Even better, let President Reagan know. If we want our Fairness Doctrine rights back, we're going to have to make a fuss.einstate the Fairness Doctrine within the next few weeks."

Of course we know Reagan wasn't interested in fairness.

7. More "To Do's"
Universal Health Care

Legalization of Marijuana

Double the minimum wage (over time)

Maximum Wage

Sustainable economy & environment

Removal of corporate rights

"I see in the near future a crisis approaching that unnerves me and causes me to tremble for the safety of my country...Corporations have been enthroned. An era of corruption in high places will follow and the money power will endeavor to prolong its reign by working on the prejudices of the people until wealth is aggregated in a few hands and the Republic is destroyed."
-- President Abraham Lincoln, 1864

make some inroads into the basics.

Addressing the issues of campaign finance and lobbyists would increase our chances of getting the issues you raise through Congress.

on edit: Perhaps the media is the key to informing people just what is at stake. Many people are brain washed and continue to vote against their own best interests.

The basics are first, but they seem to be the last as well for many prominent Democrats of recent years.
