"The election is now _______'s to lose."
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 03:51 PM by Walt Starr
Am I wrong, or is this sentence a negative connotation placed upon whomsoever is _____?

Think about it, nobody was saying, "This election is Bush's to lose." at any point in this race, but suddenly, Kerry is up on Bush and now it's, "This election is Kerry's to lose." Let's face it, Bush is the incumbent. Regardless of any poll, gaffe, flap, or scandal, this election is George W. Bush's to lose.

I think that during the RNC, all Democrats making comments to the press should state, "Clearly, this election is George W. Bush's to lose because he is the incumbent." Put the negative connotation of failure upon Bush. He is certainly a failure, he should be saddled with the mantle of failure.

1. My understanding is...
...that it is Kerry's election to lose because he has already taken away a number of likely Bush supporters. In one analysis I read, Kerry has taken away significant numbers of college-educated voters who know that the war, the deficit, and the economy are a bust. Bush is going to have to get huge numbers of less educated voters to make up for it. Thus it is JK's election to lose.

2. Failure to help the economy
Failure to capture OBL, failure to create jobs, failure to improve the school system, failure to tell the truth about Saddam, failure to win the popular vote in 2000, failure to pick an appropriate spot for the RNC...

I could go on. "Failure" is the word.

3. From November through most of January, these same people
stated, as if it were fact, that Howard Dean had the nomination all locked up. Memories are short indeed.
