Help Request For Kerry's Media Corps
Hello Guys,

I'm working on my weekly phone call to my local NPR affiliate (I'm going to be on the air) and I'd like some help with the current assignment from Kerry's media corps.

I'm sure most here participate in the Kerry corps writing to local newspapers and calling local media so I thought some may shed a light.

The assignment is for us to tell our communities that Bush sacrifices public safety and health in favor of corporate profits.

The details are as follows:

George Bush is taking away the right to overtime pay from up to 6 million Americans, including nurses, cooks, clerical workers, and nursery school teachers.

George Bush allowed dirty power plants to expand without controlling their emissions.

George Bush endangered pregnant workers when he stopped regulating exposure to the chemicals used in the manufacturing of semiconductors.

George Bush rolled back mercury regulations and proposed to defer controls on toxic mercury emissions by power plants for at least a decade.

George Bush reduced protections for mine workers and eliminated rules to protect workers from tuberculosis
-----

But there are no resources listed for this assignment. Does anybody know details on the source of the four items listed above in case I need to back it up? Also, does anybody have any Kerry speeches that address the issues listed above? Links would be appreciated!

Thanks!

1. I know that the cut in overtime pay was debated on the Senate floor.
The whole thing is based on a re-classification of what is considered "professional" work and what is not. A whole host of people who are blue collar workers and were never considered "professional" are now considered so. "Professional" people are salaried people. Salaried people do not have right to claim overtime pay. Many blue collar workers are paid by the hour and as such they have the right to claim overtime pay if they work beyond their forty hours a week. They were specifically protected by a 60 year old law which stated that if they worked more than the 40 hour work week, they had to be payed time and a half for overtime.
The Bushco$ and the Republican $enate have done away with that. The debate on that, which took place a while back, was televised on C-Span. I don't know if they would still have a record of that debate, or a link to that. The Senate Record SHOULD AND DOES have a record of that.

The emissions control and environmental dangers which have increased under Bush should also perhaps be part of the congressional record, I think. If not, I am sure the New York Times and Washington Post have written extensively about Bush's roll back on EPA.

I wish I could be clearer on my recollection and point you directly to the sources where you might find your answers. I hope this points you in a direction that might be helpful to you in finding your answers.

:-)

3. I'll bet Googling would yield the sources, and maybe even the speeches --
good luck!
