Matthew 15:19 and the Swiftboat vets
Jesus said "From out of the heart come evil thoughts. . .false testimony, slander." How can you be a Christian, a follower of Jesus, and pass on lies? Repugs seem to enjoy slander as much as sex, and they love those preachers that tell them it's OK to bear false witness. But I don't think Jesus likes it.

1. Because their beliefs are convenience only. Helps them get what
they want.

2. It doesn't seem that Jesus is a factor in their faith
There's that Blessed are the peacemakers thing, and judge not lest ye be judged. Oh, well. . .

3. Jesus has nothing to do with their brand of christianity.
Matthew 7:21-23: "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and in your name drive out demons and perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!'

let's call a sheep a sheep.
that's all there is to it -- there are so many conservative christians who are using their faith to cover hate.

5. Those conservatives have no faith of their own.
They're just hijacking someone else's for their own selfish benefits.

I've hated that whole mentality ever since I saw that Jerry Falwell demanded "a cheque for one hundred dollars" from his parishoners every week on the old time gospel hour. And this was back in the seventies--more than $300 today!

6. My favorite was when God held Oral Roberts hostage for 8 million.
My biggest disappointment was when that rich guy paid the ransom. I really wanted to see what God did to him when he didn't raise the 8 million.

7. If you are really interested, read"Crusade" by James Carroll.
I just started it and it's jaw-dropping (I like to think I am a Christian, too).
