Former Sens. John Edwards and Sam Nunn are on a list of potential running mates for Democrat Barack Obama, a congresswoman said Thursday, one day after she met with the team Obama has reviewing possible candidates.

Rep. Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick, D-Mich., who leads the Congressional Black Caucus, said members of her caucus asked her to forward the names of Edwards and Nunn when she met Wednesday with Obama's vice presidential search team. The team, Caroline Kennedy and Eric Holder, indicated the two were on the list.

"We've been brainstorming in the Congressional Black Caucus. Former Senator Sam Nunn's name has come up, as well as John Edwards' name has come up among our CBC members. I reported that to them and they had both of those names on their list," Kilpatrick said in an interview with The Associated Press.

3. Edwards is the worst possible VP pick.
Not only would he be bashed in the media as the perennial VP candidate, he would be pimping his fourth campaign platform in as many years. Not exactly a good thing for someone like Edwards with his authenticity issues.

Team Kerry rated him poorly, saying he was hard to keep on message and within talking points.

Not to mention its hard to run a campaign based on change when you are running reruns.

I hope Mr. Edwards stays very far away from government, and enjoys his time in the private sector. Doesn't he have a hedge fund he go learn about poverty at or something?

13. Not to mention, he has issues really being number two
That showed in HIS story to the NYT that he refused to use Kerry's slogan, "help is on the way", because he thought his "hope is on the way" was better. (In fact, I think we had hope, and needed help, but it didn't matter who was right - they needed one consistent slogan. Part of being VP is realizing that you can make your case, but it is the number one guy who decides. Now, Kerry had far more experience and had beaten him soundly in the primaries, and he was unable to concede that Kerry should lead. With Obama, he is on record saying he was "weak" and "inexperienced" - given that 3 years after 2004, he didn't see that he was wrong - why would he be more deferential to Obama.

What astonishes me is that this story is known, not because a Kerry ally leaked it - but because Edwards was oddly proud of it.

One thing people might think of is that all the Kerry strategists and money (except 1) people stayed with Kerry until he said he was not running - the majority went to Obama, a few to HRC, some sat out the primary - none went to Edwards. Now, what do you think those Kerry 2004/Obama 2008 people are advising Obama? I'm sure the "slogan" problem, for which the campaign was criticized for not being able to commit to a slogan - and especially criticized because they were too similar, was likely the tip of the ice berg. In addition the Edwards of the GE was a pale version of the Edwards in the primary - in terms of enthusiasm.

9. Clark is a better choice.
He is not a knee-jerk war hawk. He is balanced. He has leadership experience. He has connections in the DOD. He is not so appealing to the far right that they would want to replace Obama with him.

7. Sam Nunn.
Jesus Christ. This is a million times worse for the GLBT community than Donnie McClurkin ever was.

Just even considering this asshole is an insult to GLBT Democrats.

8. Sam Nunn is a tool of the military-industrial complex.
Always has been, always will be.

Obama is risking his own life if he appoints Nunn as VP. The extremist right-wing would just have too much to gain from installing Nunn in the White House. I'm sorry to have to say that, but as one who was traumatized by the assassination of JFK in 1963, I see a trap here.

12. Sam Nunn---LOLLERCAUST
Unless they've got some kind of hyper-reliable secret information that 3-in-5 Georgia residents personally owe Sam Nunn their first born child, I can't imagine any person that could underline 'CHANGE!' like a two hundred year-old gay-hating superhawk.

Obama still needs to redeem himself with the gay community, and Nunn would send a really bad message.

Who should we email?

23. Steve Hildebrand was on a conference call to GLBT Democrats....
a few weeks back. He was doing some outreach to Hillary, Edwards and other GLBT Democrats for the Obama campaign. He said all the right things about Obama's committment to GLBT people. I think he should be informed about how seriously bad this would be.

I'm telling you, this would be a huge fucking mistake.

He does the best in match-ups. Obama/Gore would be the ultimate, but I don't think it will happen.

27. Please, NOT Sam Nunn! NOOOOOOOOO!
One of the worst Reagan enablers in the 1980s, the king of "bipartisanship," the coddler of the military-industrial complex, the fan of oligarchs who massacred Central American peasants, the man who thought that the Democrats were "too liberal"...

One of my least favorite nominal Democrats of all time.

We don't need THAT kind of balance on the ticket.
