Congress.org -- Letters to Bush
Subject:
Swift boat Vets action record conflicts with their statements

To:
President George Bush

August 19, 2004

The Washington post, using the Freedom of Information act was given partial copies of the action report for Capt. Larry Thurlows' boat. Thurlow is the leader of the mis-named Swift Boat Vets for Truth that is attacking Kerrys' war record, saying no member of the five boat group took any fire that day. BUT, Thurlow was also awarded a Bronze star for action under fire in the same group that same day, on the same mission, Hmmm.

The action report repeatedly references "enemy small arms and automatic rifle fire directed at all boats of the five boat flotilla". So how can Thurlow say there was no enemy fire directed at any one that day? He received a medal for being part of the group with kerry and under fire from the enemy. Thurlow states he never read the citation, every award ceremony I have seen or attended included a recitation by a senior officer listing the reason for the award, not to say this may not have been different from normal procedure. But a Bronze Star is something you pay attention to, wouldn’t you be interested in what you did to receive it? Maybe Thurlow has hearing problems as well as memory disfunction. He also states he lost the citation over twenty years ago, after as he stated, never reading it. Thurlow further states he would never have accepted, as he apparently eagerly did, such a citation or decoration if he had known it was for action under fire with Kerry.

So lets see, he was, maybe still is, out of touch with what goes on around him, did not care enough about the award to even read it or keep it, but he is relying on Vets to believe him and get on Kerrys’ case for volunteering to go to Vietnam and putting his life on the line. Unlike someone else we know who can’t even prove he was not AWOL, very patriotic of Mr. Thurlow! Thurlow has also stated he is a devout fanatical Republican and hates Kerry for throwing medals over the fence in Washington DC when he returned from Vietnam. Could that be the real reason, maybe some jealously? And oh yeah, MONEY!, Thurlow and group are making out like bandits from the denounciations of Kerry, smells a little funny, especially the timing of their Republican paid for disclosure.

But the Bush camp would never rely on or resort to dirty politics. Have they ever lied to us? look at all the things they have been so honest about. They said it was Iraqis' not Saudi citizens' who attacked us on 9/11, WMD, immanent threats, Saddam and Bin Laden were buddies, the cost of the war, mobile labs, the cost of war in lives, we would be welcomed with flowers and candy, no torture, education and the environment. And of course, Bushs' good Christian ethics. I really love that one, even though it is an insult to God and good Christians.

Scott McLellan today is saying that you condemned the 527 ADs (?)

To:
President George Bush

Mr. President, You have NOT condemned these ads so don't go trying to look as though you have. Senator Kerry denounced the 527 ads Weds. .On Larry King Liva Tuesday you told Mr. King that you had not even seen this latest ad directed at you. You have been running attack ads against Kerry since early Spring and you've spent nearly 100 MILLION DOLLARS on these ads up to this point. Obviously what you are "throwing" isn't sticking. As for the MoveOn.org ads, admit it George, they're telling the truth. If you can not admit that then you need "help", and so does America.

Do the Right Thing

To:
President George Bush

August 19, 2004

Dear Mr. President;

It's been revealed that Larry Thurlow, leader of the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, either lied about not being under enemy fire when both he and John Kerry won Bronze Stars or he accepted his under false pretenses. This was determined by the Washington Post who via the Freedom of Information Act got copies of Thurlow's military records. The citation for Thurlow's Bronze Star states several times that they were under small arms and automatic weapons fire during the incident. Thurlow now denies those claims.

Last month, under oath, Thurlow swore Kerry was not under fire and claims he never heard a shot. Thurlow also claims he lost the citation for his Bronze Star. Either Thurlow is wearing a Bronze Star he didn't earn or he's lying.

Either way, sir, it's time you did the right thing and distance yourself from the group and their ad. Thurlow's actions are beneath even you, Mr. President. By not condemning Thurlow's group's ad, you risk being associated with someone either lying about the incident or wearing a Bronze Star he didn't earn.

But far be it for you to allow a lie or a fraud to aid you in reaching your goals, right, Mr. President?
