In my local paper today...
Paper's Stories Told Of Hope in Iraq
Editor, Times-Dispatch: I would like to commend the newspaper for its great journalistic coverage of the war in Iraq the past couple of weeks. The stories by and about soldiers are the only ones worth reading. War is awful, no doubt, but I felt your stories told of hope and some progress being made in the liberation of Iraq.

As we all try to make some sense of the upcoming presidential election, it is important that America stay strong and resolute. If someone would like to take the job from George Bush, I would certainly like to hear some solutions instead of talking about all the problems we have.

Another thing that bothers me is our treatment of 9/11. We don't say, "Remember 9/11" the way we do with the Alamo and Pearl Harbor. I hope everyone who votes realizes the object of that group of cowards who attacked was to kill 30,000 to 50,000 innocent Americans.

In this day when everybody expects instant gratification, and personal responsibility seems to be slipping away, I pray for and appreciate our soldiers who have to be the toughest military force ever assembled.

Remember 9/11. John Cates. richmond.

1. Notice he has to try to pump up the 9/11 death toll? Wasn't it enough?
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 09:09 AM by Democat
For some reason the guy is talking about 30,000 to 50,000 dead Americans rather than the actual Americans who died on 9/11. Maybe he should focus on reality and deal with real world problems rather than throwing around made up numbers. Didn't the U.S. suffer enough tragedy without him adding to the death toll in his head?

A sad letter from another brainwashed right winger.

2. What is it with these people?
What does our being in Iraq have to do with 9/11? And the "liberation" of Iraq - that one makes me sick every time I hear it. We didn't hear a thing about "liberation" or the poor oppressed Iraqis until it came out that every other reason we'd been give for going over there was a lie. Yup, we're going to liberate you by going into your country and killing your children, destroying your infrastructure and setting up a puppet government for us to run. Let's hear a big cheer for freedom and the U.S. of A.

4. The group of cowards that attacked?
Call the hijackers what you will, but someone willing to die for their beliefs, twisted though they may be, is not a coward. Delusional, crazy, fanatical, unprincipled, fuzzy-on-the-concept religious, but I certainly wouldn't call them cowards.

Why hasn't Mr. Cates cashed in his ticket to fight the terrorists? I mean, it's probably a tough pull, doing duty in Richmond, but why can't he be at least as brave as the cowards, and go blow up a few terrorists himself? I'm sure he'll make a huge difference, as well as being true to the "personal responsibility" that he claims means so much to him.
