Where were Swiftboat Liars when Nixon was trying to trash Kerry?
Nixon tapes reveal that Richard Nixon was orchestrating an intense effort to discredit John Kerry for speaking out against the Vietnam war? Why didn't Nixon's dirty operatives (we ALL know he had them) dig up any claims of self-inflicted wounds, or undeserved medals?

Are we to believe that these veterans for "truth" have memories that have IMPROVED with the passing of 30 years?

Strange, but the worst dirt that Nixon and Chuck Colson were able to dig up on Kerry was that he ate at fancy restaurants and stayed with friends in Georgetown rather that camping out with the rest of the vets protesting the war.

"The Nixon White House saw Kerry as a threat, and set out to discredit him and infiltrate his organization. The week after the protest rally, Nixon is heard discussing Kerry with White House aide Charles Colson:

Colson: This fellow Kerry that they had on last week --

Nixon: Yeah.

Colson: -- hell, he turns out to be, uh, really quite a phony.

Nixon: Well, he is sort of a phony, isn't he?

Colson: Well, he stayed, when he was here --

Nixon: Stayed out in Georgetown, yeah.

Colson: -- was out at the best restaurants every night and, uh --

Nixon: Sure.

Colson: -- you know, he's just, the complete opportunist.

Nixon: A racket, sure.

Colson: We’ll keep hitting him, Mr. President."

1. Nixon must not have offered them enough money to sell out and lie
It's all about cash. Bush must have offered a lot more than Nixon.

2. John O'Neill
John O'Neill, the leader of the swiftboat veterans for truth, was originally hand picked by Nixon to destroy Kerry's career, back in the 70's. They had a fairly famous debate on the Dick Cavett show, in which O'Neill didn't fare very well. O'Neill doesn't like to talk about that. One would think that O'Neill, as the leader of this group, would actually have known something about Kerry's service - especially after reading an OP-Ed he wroted, entitled: "I was on Mr. Kerry's boat in Vietnam. He doesn't deserve to be commander in chief." However, he did not serve with Kerry. He arrived in Vietnam after Kerry had already left. O'Neill provided $25,000 of the group's funding.

3. O'Neil was right there!
He was the young Nixon supporter they hauled out to debate Kerry on the Dick Cavet Show. He's been in the pocket of the Pubs every since. How he coaxed the rest of them, I have no idea.

9. If it's all $$. it's very sad that ethics can be bought!
That pi**es me off the MOST! It seems like anybody can be bought for the right amount of $$. Everybody has a price tag. I've thought about that for a long time. Is there a price that I would sell my soul for? I guess it would depend on the circumstances. I admit, if I found $10,000 in a bag on the street, I'd have a tough time just turning it in to the cops. On the other hand, I have given up jobs in the past because the boss wanted me to compromise my ethics (I was an Accountant) and record deceptive entries.

It's an interesting challenge though. Ask yourself what would it take for you to lie?

8. Yes, but back then O'Neill was not questioning Kerry's bravery
The debate was about war atrocities and whether we should be in Vietnam in the first place. Strange that Kerry's record of bravery was never questioned back then when they were trying to discredit him.

I watched the infamous debate on the Dick Cavett show and there was NO questioning of Kerry's medals back then.

7. In Those Days, We Had a Free Press...
...which would have exposed the lies and made the lying the story.

Now the free press in the USA is almost dead.

Most media outlets are content to repeat the regime's lies
rather than exposing them.

that Kerry's Viet-Nam record is fair game since he made
it the center piece of his campaign and acceptance speech
at DNC.
