If John Kerry himself registered and posted here would DU end up scaring
him off?

Or let's say John Edwards did some outreach to DU and signed up for a few days. What would happen?

Could you just imagine all the people lining up to bitch at them?

I wonder how long they would last?

I don't know, but it would be damn fun to watch.

2. well, it would not be about "scaring" them off
it's more about them just not wanting to waste time on something they view as not being effective.

i think that was the case with the dem strategist person. it wasn't about being scared. it was about them coming here to work out a strategy they had, but found it was not very effective.

3. They'd probably have more fun...
...and actually 'gain' more from the experience if they did so anonymously.

13. YOU, w13rd0
win the prize! :toast:

Herding cats is an exercise in futility. Everyone know cats have staff. ;-)
There is a simmering, palpable rage here that is so easily triggered by the faintest whiff of a top-down structure. Witness the 1000+ post marker. After all, many feel that IS what got us into this mess.

Were I a "person of note" it would seem to me to be a good strategy to "blend in," establish relationships with those whose posts I found well
thought out and strong on research and activity, ignore those who are so angry (and rightly so) that they cannot see straight and would like nothing better than to scream in the face of anyone who presents her/himself as being close to the reins of power, while maintaining my anonymity.

Repugs can be herded. Dems must be "handled." ;-)

20. They would gain nothing if they posted as themselves as
more people would be interested in the notoriety, whether in a good or bad way, than anything else.

I've gotten some politicians to post here but only knew the usernames of two of them. It was a hoot to watch someone argue the specifics of a bill without the knowledge that the person they are arguing with was a big part of getting the bill into law. :)

14. You're probably right
I don't know if Kerry or Edwards would gain much from posting here, but some of his staff might.

And to come out and announce your presence is just asking to get taken down a notch or two. Internet message boards make criticism very tempting and very easy. It's not like real life.

short time. He made it to something like thirty posts before he was tombstoned. :)

Your family can bitch about you up one side and down the other but let someone outside the family put you down and they'll be the first to defend you.

edited for syntax.

I think if Kerry came we'd all be very respectful. I'd love to see it happen too!

Or Teresa :loveya:.

18. Your right. We probably would scare them off
Which is just another example of how far the dem party has fallen. How are they suppose to fight the BFEE if they think DU is scary. How are they suppose to fight Al Quaeda or "Terra"? This is exactly what some people are mad about. The famous "pink tutu" stategy. We can't afford that anymore.

21. If he intro'd himself saying "I might or might not be JK..."
... then, yeah, I guess he'd get a skeptical reaction.

If he claimed he would share some brilliant insights with us, then said "It gets dark at night," yeah I think the audience might turn on him.

And if he started a thread like this one, and tended it as poorly, I sure would expect a bit of negativity in the air:

Fortunately, JK has a lot more smarts than that. The only thing we need to win this race is... John Kerry. I'm counting on him to tell the 'strategists' and 'handlers' and 'consultants' to button their lips in the weeks ahead, then go out and get the job done. Speak his piece, tell it like it is, and win this thing by a mile.

23. You don't get it, do you?
It was not about DS at all. It was about coming here to explain strategy when fighting back was needed. It was about telling a lot of us how to do media activism when we have been doing it for years now.

It struck a chord because it implied that if we disagreed, we were being difficult.

See, it worked. I have been classified now as a difficult person who does not know how politics works.

One good thing, though. Kerry is fighting back, just as we said.

I don't mind being labeled as non-compliant. I have been such a boring Democrat for years, following the party patter. Now I don't, so I accept the label.
