Just a little shrapnel.....
When I hear something like that I realize the person uttering the phrase has never seen combat. There is no scarier sound on the face of the earth than shrapnel buzzing around. You never know where it is coming from. It can come from above or behind or in front or ?????. Bullets almost always come from in front of you and you know where to protect yourself from. Shrapnel is a sound that haunts one forever. For any vet to blow off someone's injury because it is just a little shrapnel is mind boggling and tells me they have no fucking idea. No fucking idea at all.

1. I have a piece of shrapnel from my brother's wound in Vietnam
It was from a friggin tin can that they rigged into a booby trap. No, it's not large, but just imagine tin can fragments flying around your face, eyes, and other exposed parts.
Dumbasses.

If I EVER see any of those old pricks..............

my father had so much shrapnel in his back that they didn't even bother counting it

he carried it to his grave, forty five years later

he never complained about it, though he was on 80 percent disability the entire time

enough of this

I hope there's a special place in hell for these people, most of all Rove and Bush

and lower the spit a bit for Nixon, who dug ONeill out of the shitheap in the first place

4. Totally agree.
It's not the severity of the injury, it's the fact that he was in situations where a flying piece of metal, impacting a few inches in either direction makes all the difference between living and dying. Real veterans understand this.

Silly little muffins like Malkin will never figure this out.

5. Guy I worked with in the eighties

Vietnam Vet. Back and legs full of shrapnel, most too small and
deep to operate to get. So every month or two, one more piece would
work its way to the surface... unbelievably painful for him.
Vietnam just completely messed up this guy, mentally and physically.

Small pieces of shrapnel are nothing to brush off as a "minor" wound.

Course, for these people, even Max Cleland losing three limbs wasn't
enough, apparently.

6. My Father Who's Now Gone Got A Little Shrapnel In His Right
Eye During The North Africa Campaign In World War 2... It blinded him.... He got his Purple Heart which I have and looked at this morning during this brouhaha...

He cried when he saw the POWS coming home from viet Nam knowing what they have been through...

If he was alive he would cry at how a man who served his country like John Kerry is being smeared by the minions of a man who hid out in the National Guard...
