HELP, PLEASE! Right Winger charge against Kerry
A right winger posted on a forum that Kerry's letters for his Bronze Star and Silver are NOT THE ORIGINALS. They are signed by John Lehman who was not Secretary of the Navy until 1981.

There has to be a plausible reason for this. I know a DUer will come up with it!

1. Just ask them where Bush's original medals are...
oh wait...he was a coward and used his daddy's connection to get into the National Guard instead of fighting for his country...so, Bush doesn't have any medals:

2. John H. Chafee was secretary of the navy in 1969
Looks as much like the sig of John Chafee as John Lehman to me.

4. When you get a copy of your birth certificate, is it the original?
Of course not.

The stuff says 'official record copy' all over it. They aren't just going to hand JK the originals and let him walk off with them.

Are they accusing Ronald Reagan's Secretary of the Navy of altering JK's military records or something?

9. Fellow can only read "John"? - From 1/31/69 to 4/8/74 Sec Navy was John
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 03:03 PM by papau
and it was not Lehman - although I grant you sig. looks like "Lehman".

But the Silver Star was signed by Zumwalt - as Commander

and the Sec Navy for the point where they added the Combat Dist. Devise may well have been "Lehman"

November 29, 1963 -June 30, 1967 Paul H. Nitze
July 1, 1967 -August 31, 1967 Charles F. Baird (acting)
September 1, 1967 -January 24, 1969 Paul R. Ignatius
January 31, 1969 -May 4, 1972 John H. Chafee
May 4, 1972 -April 8, 1974 John H. Warner
April 8, 1974 -January 20, 1977 J.(John?) William Middendorf

Who says the citation is written within 6 months or 16 years of a combat incident -Lehman could write a citation for whomever he wanted based on military records.

Or a sig stamp for a Lehman or Lyman - as an 'acting' Secretary of the Navy at the time Kerry got this citation - while they waited for new Sec Navy?

12. Well that would be helpful but
i don't seen anything about Lehman in your link?

That's what I'd figure--if it's really Lehman's sig, then he was some sort of aide/undersecretary at the time.

14. Don't know about Kerry's awards but I know in my case I have
at least one award that was issued in 1971 for action in 1968. They usually are quite specific about the date and place the action took place but the actual award could be issued months or years later.
