Whoa-Look at Hardball Ratings for Last Night-Tweety shoots and scores

CABLE NEWS RACE

FOXNEWS HANNITY/COLMES 1.6
FOXNEWS O'REILLY 1.6
FOXNEWS SHEP SMITH 1.3
FOXNEWS GRETA 1.2
FOXNEWS BRIT HUME 1.2
CNN LARRY KING 0.9
MSNBC HARDBALL 0.8
CNN PAULA ZAHN 0.6
CNN AARON BROWN 0.5
MSNBC OLBERMANN 0.5
MSNBC NORVILLE 0.4
MSNBC SCARBOROUGH 0.4
CNBC DENNIS MILLER 0.1
CNBC MCENROE 0.1

We used to gloat that Tweety's ratings were at the level of Donahue when he was cancelled. I seem to remember that was about a .2 or .3. Note Hardball almost beat Larry King last night and is outranking the CNN shows. I know MSNBC has been touting Hardball's improving ratings. If Matthews keeps on his wingnut trashing bent, I'd love to see him overtake at least Hume. They need a little humility and some looking over their shoulder over at Faux.

Also like that Scarborough is not improving much. And that Olbermann beat it - and remember Olbermann is against O' Really.

The RNC coverage could prove very interesting on MSNBC.

1. Out-fucking-standing!
Tweety has a lot to atone for but MSNBC has noticed that their coverage of the DNC provided them with a big boost while CNN scraped the bottom of the barrel for the FAUX viewers. As long as they continue to challenge these people we should keep watching, letting them know we are watching and why, and let CNN know why they're no longer being watched. FAUX isn't worthy of consideration.

2. LOOK AT THE RATINGS FOR ALL OF THEM!!
Been saying this a while now. We get all in a twist about CNN, MSNBC and the rest of these whore stations, and forget that 99.4% OF THE POPULATION ISN'T WATCHING IT. They watch their local news, and the Kerry crew has worked very hard and well to get excellent coverage on these local stations.

Stop watching cable news chanels. You're watching masturbation, and frankly, you have better things to do with your time.

3. You can tune out cable - but I thought last night's Tweety
smackdown was WWE for Progressive viewers.

6. I'm not going to cuddle up to Matthews any time soon
He compared the people who make Kerry's campaign commercials to the woman who made Hitler's propaganda films before and during WWII. He did that from the floor of the Dem convention. Some have said "He was joking." I don't give a good damn if he was wearing a red clown nose and big floppy shoes. That one will be in my craw for a good long time.

You all can give Matthews a backrub. Leave me of the party list.

8. Who Else In The Mainstream Media
Who else in the mainstream media has undressed the Swift Vote Veterans for Bush and their enablers besides Matthews?

14. Look at the ratings
The mainstream cable TV news media could report that a giant 400 ton ladybug just took a giant shit on the Capitol Dome, and 99.4% of the country's TV watchers would not hear it from them. They'd hear it on their local TV news programs, or hear it on the radio, or read it in the morning paper.

Many of these, btw, have done a great job at reporting the debunking.

This was on the front page of the NY Times today:

Look, I'm happy Matthews tooled on the Swift Boat fools. It must have been gratifying to watch. You and maybe a few thousand others had a similar magical experience. But that doesn't change the facts:

a. No one is watching;

b. Matthews has dogged the Democrats seventy ways from Sunday in the last year.

I'm not ready for snuggles just yet.

18. And how many read the NYT's or listen to the Network news?
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 04:08 PM by rmpalmer
Unfortunately even though not that many watch the cable shows or listen to the RW talk machine - it is vast enough that the koolaid drinkers and the channel flippers do talk this crap up at the watercooler, the lunch room, the bar, etc.

I see and listen to it happen in my workplace, restaurants, etc.

I heard it this week on a local liberal talk show - the Swift Boat crap had many of the less than informed fence sitters who were leaning Kerry to go back to fence-sitting or leaning Bush cause, gee, if all these vets were speaking out against Kerry - then there must be something there.

I think Kerry's comeback was brilliant - though late. But if you don't get some of the media whores to smack down these liars then it could cost Kerry the election.

I don't want to go through 2000 again - and I do think the media whores played their part to help bring him down.

I think they set out to and helped to bring down Dean's campaign. And now it seems amazing but he seems to be a media darling to a few of them.

These media whores - even cable have more power than we'd like to give them credit for - didn't they help to sell much of the public this misadministrations war even though many of us were out here screaming and knew the truth?

On edit. This LAT snippet is my point - even though cable pundits not watched by many - 50% of public knows about the ads.

Even so, the Annenberg survey said "more than half the country has heard about or seen" the commercial -- the result of widespread coverage on cable television and talk radio as well as the Internet.

The University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey also found that 44 percent of self-described independent voters found the ad very or somewhat believable.

10. That's fine - my view is reward them when they do right
smack them when they don't.

If our side never watches then all they'll program to is the wingnuts. I say we have to show them there's another half of the pie and I think AAR has started to open their eyes.

Matthews can be a big idiot, and I'll probably be screaming at him or his guests again.

We need the media to wake up and help us stop the Rove smear machine. Unfortunately most of the American public is not as tuned-in as DU'ers and this constant drumbeat from RW media machine does get in to their heads.

I saw that with the 2000 election when people I knew didn't follow politics closely bought in to the Gore is a liar scam Rove got the media to plant in the American public's head.

The RW noise machine managed with their screeds of "liberal media" to cow the media in to not questioning and actually leaning to the RW side.

I think we need to pay attention and use many of the tactics the RW perfected.

12. I'm with you, Will.
Some here may praise Tweety for his new spine these days but I will never forget how much he trashed the Clinton's. Ever.

20. Rove and minions monitor cable news networks like hawks --
and use one of them (and maybe two) as propaganda arms. These networks are part of the great meme-making machine, and can have a part in our standing or falling. They helped destroy Al Gore on his way to what should have been a wide- (instead of a narrow-) victory. Their viewers are interested enough to watch, skew older, and are, I assume, likely to vote.

I agree, however, that local (and broadcast network) news and numbers are more important, and have read exactly what you have reported: that Kerry/Edwards get good coverage, especially in those local markets.

4. Damn MSRNC is coming back from death, CNN isn't on the list!?
Lou Dobbs, Anderson Cooper haven't made a dent at all? Damn.

MSNBC as of late has some good programing and the boosted ratings are showing. Hopefully they'll keep it up and not get chickenshit like CNN and trying being FOX-lite to "boost" ratings. For CNN the strategy is failing.

i'm shocked where did you get these numbers?

9. MSNBC should scrap Scarborough (dead intern) & put on Ron Reagan.
Ron Reagan is the reason MSNBC did so well during the Dem Convention coverage, imho.

He should have a show instead of Scarborough. I'd watch it.

16. I've noticed that when something happens in the news and the freeper
who watches Faux News or listens to Rush, hasn't been able to do either thing, then they have NO IDEA how to process the information.

They cannot figure out what they should think or how they should feel about it until they check with Faux News or Rush.

That is some scary sh*t.

Haven't you observed this phenomena with freeps at work or family members?

17. Do ratings go below 0.1?
Or are they like the SAT's where you get a score just for showing up.

(Just Wondering how CNBC DENNIS MILLER got that high)

19. May be as low as they go
Sludge likes post the low number of viewers that McEnroe has - course he never tells us the number of viewers that Miller gets. I'd love who could stomach that show. I swear it must be captive inmates and shutins who can't switch the channel. Millers show could be used for psychological torture.
