Question about Voter Registration/Absentee Ballot presentation
I am going to hand out Voter Registration forms and Absentee Ballot requests but I was also going to have some Kerry and Hoeffel signs along with providing John Kerry bumper stickers for sale.

It isn't over the top to sell Kerry stickers while at the same time providing registration forms.....is it?

2. I am a Democratic committee woman for my area
and I have been to many events where Democratic Organizations hand out registration forms as well as offering bumperstickers or buttons for sale.

Now I know that I can't turn away a republican who requests a form.

3. Registration process must be non partisan in Illinois, by law.
No stickers, no buttons, nothing.

It may be ok where you live.

7. No, not anymore
Those laws are for deputy registrars. The new federal HAVA guidelines mean anyone can do voter registration with the federal form, and it can be partisan, as long as you don't turn anyone away based on their party.

8. do you have a link for that federal law?
I am a deputy registrar and I have never heard of a federal form recognized by the county clerk, nor have I heard that "anybody" can register voters.

9. It was passed a couple years ago
in response to the Florida fiasco. A few good things and a few bad things were in it. Many the old rules that made it hard to register voters in Illinois can be ignored.

4. Here in Ga. I was told by the Dem Party chairman that I couldn't
indicate party aliegence. If we do voter registration, we can't have signs, stickers, or even wear Kerry tee shirts.

Maybe this is a state thing.

5. What state are you in?
I do voter reg in CA. We have buttons and bumper stickers and a jar for small cash donations which we use to replentish the supply. We make sure to do most of our registering on public sidewalks so we can display Kerry signs legally. Stores with their own parking lots and malls usually make you be non partisan.

6. Wasn't it in florida where the pugs filled in the party affiliation?
When they were registering voters who had just become U.S. citizens?
