Re: Bush Campaign Busted Passing Out “Swift Boat Vets for Bush” Flyer
I have a question - this topic was red hot a few hours ago:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=132x643766

but now that the heat of the moment has passed a little, how big do people really think it is?

I happened to see Hannity and Colmes tonight, and Colmes brought it up, so I know it made it to Fox. Have people seen it on some of the other shows? What kind of spin did it get?

On the other hand, the Bush team already has their ridiculous spin going that they have no idea how this literature wound up at Bush/Cheney headquarters. Local repugs are even playing up the "we're just a bunch of simple folk" angle.

Mike Bradley, a Vietnam veteran from Gainesville, said the idea for the rally "started over a couple of beers at the VFW" by a "ragtag" group of veterans and had no connection to the Bush campaign. He said Ponder and others were paying their own way to attend.

"We just bought $31 worth of posterboards and magic markers" to make signs for the rally, Bradley said. "That's how professional we are."

So, like I say, how huge do people now think this is?

1. Craig Crawford mentions it in passing on Hardball tonight on MSNBC
(they are replaying it right now). It was right when it broke so they didn't really talk about it.

2. Kerry Filed With the FEC
Since it is prior to a national election, the issue will receive top hearing. They aren't going to file a suit they can lose. Have faith.

5. The repukes
are washed up, and they know it - they're grasping for straws - it really is pathetic. But, it couldn't happen to better folks. Hee hee.

3. The evidence is cumulative
On it's own, it's not much. It's all the shit in the NYT plus this and who knows what next that makes a "case". That's what they will bring to the FEC.

7. If a bush/cheney campaign worker

and not just a ad hoc repuke or SBV4T guy was handing this
out at a campaign rally... it's a big deal. Clear violation
of the law. If the FEC grew some nads, they could halt all
SBV4T activities and possibly fine them out of existence.

Video of this action would be very handy.

Just like video of all rethug activities, like removing
Kerry/Edwards signs and their hateful actions toward anyone
with Kerry campaign material. We get video, it makes the news.
That simple.

8. Raise your hands
If you've ever worked on a political campaign. Seems like most of you. Now, come on, do any of you actually think that these people just started handing out the flyers without consulting the local GOP, and that this just went on and on without them eeeever finding out? Of course not.

Anyone whose ever worked in a campaign knows that every piece of paper handed out, like everything else, is checked and re-checked by the people in charge, in this case Bush's local campaign heads, who work under direct orders from the main campaign.

This was probably checked and re-checked and okayed by the local Bush team before it was passed out.

So either they run a very VERY shoddy campaign (unlikely) or they're lying.

9. Of course...
...that's why I'm able to go down to the Bush/Cheney04 HQ here in St. Louis, volunteer, and then stack hundreds of Kerry/Edwards flyers right up in front. See, they pay NO ATTENTION to what's going on and what's being passed out within their offices. You could pass out practically anything. Slanderous accusations, literature for the KKK, Log Cabin Republican stuff. You know, whatevah...
