Instead, the Akron businessman now promises to commit as much as $1.2 million to defeat the Republican powerhouse, who Davis says is more interested in multinational corporations than preserving jobs in his own district.
"If it takes $1.2 million, it will be $1.2 million," Davis said.
The candidate's new commitment to his crusade against free trade policies could make the 26th District a major political battlefield this fall, pitting Davis' personal wealth against a massive Reynolds campaign fund valued at $2.6 million.

Polling data obtained by The Buffalo News indicates 26th District respondents are statistically split between Davis and Reynolds, though the congressman's staff says it has little faith in the survey. But it has supplied Davis with enough confidence to more than double his initial financial commitment to the campaign.
