The Tale Of The Two JFKs
John Forbes Kerry and John Fitzgerald Kennedy both volunteered to fight in a war they both could have easily avoided. John Forbes Kerry could have easily received deferments and and John Fitzgerald Kennedy could have easily have received a medical deferment. It was even rumored that John Kennedy had his father pull strings to get him into the service despite his questionable health. I believe John Kennedy had his first back operation at seventeen.

Both Naval men fought heroically. John Kennedy's PT boat was cut in half by a Japanese destroyer and Kennedy brought his crew back to land despite breaking his back... So great were his exploits that they made a movie , PT109, with Cliff Robertson as it's star...

We are all aware of Kerry's exploits.... He chased down a fleeing Viet Cong with a B40 and pulled a man out of the water despite being under fire...

But John Forbes Kerry wasn't the first Democratic war hero to face the wrath of the revisionists. The revisionists said that Kennedy's carelessness led to the detection of his PT boat because he left the engine on as it was idling... At the time there was no Naval policy on leaving the engine on or off during idling and it's dubious this was the reason it was detected...

Who knows if Nixon was aware of this during the 1960 campaign but he didn't dare to make political hay of it...
