Rachel Maddow in for Kieth Olbermann good idea or bad idea?
Edited on Wed Jul-09-08 06:33 PM by elizm
Just wondering why anyone would think that is a BAD idea. Someone I know threw that question out for debate in an email to fellow Democrats and I have to admit that it blew right past me! Am I missing something here? I think Rachel Maddow is incredible and think she should have her OWN show. Seems she is the only one holding McCain and the Republicans' feet to the fire. Does anyone know anything I don't know?

1. I think she's the perfect replacement for KO when he's off. She's smart
and asks the right questions a la' Olbermann. I look forward to that one hour daily where I get to hear the unvarnished truth.

35. She is absolutely wonderful and accompanied me through dinner tonight.
Polished, professional, dignified, funny... she's quite a talent.

I love listening to her and think she is poised for much bigger success.

Warm regards,

Lady Ellen in Alpen Knolls

2. Good idea.
She's a lot sharper than most of the MSNBC crew and I appreciate her approach. I'm hoping she'll get her own show.

3. Good idea--I want to see her take on Buchanan when she's ANCHORING,
since she routinely kicks his ass when they are guests.

5. Awesome idea!
Keith has to take a vacation sometime and who better to fill in that Rachel?

If she's ever going to get her own show, this is definitely the way to do it!

11. Good idea, but...
she and Keith need to cut down somewhat on the snark/cutesy comments. They used to be more subtle and more enjoyable, almost like an inside joke.

15. Very true
Those blatantly cute remarks don't work. Subtle is far superior. I've been surprised Rachel has mirrored Keith so quickly in that regard. I guess it's the writers.

Rachel is much improved as host. And hosting will enable her to vary her game more effectively as a TV pundit. She's been on the defensive at times when she hasn't anticipated dismissal of her basic themes.

Allyson (?) and David Shuster did the snark/cutesy as well, and it made me cringe.

I haven't watched Rachel enough, but that's an interesting point. She's smart, attractive, articulate and likable -- I'm sure she'll grow in to the role. What comes on after Abrams -- prison drama? Give her that hour with a format that best fits her style.

12. Dr. Maddow is a good interim sub and she should have her own show on MSNBC
She shouldn't take over KO's, mind you, but she should for darn sure have her own.

Oh, yeah, and Mika B. should take over ol' Mourning-Joe's AM slot permanently ASAP, too.

Edited on Wed Jul-09-08 10:49 PM by Bryan
Why isn't this in the Countdown forum? She ain't running for President. I am a great admirer of Dr. Maddow, but to look at GD and GDP in the past week, the big boards have apparently been turned into her fan club...

46. "Mandate my ass!"
I remember her AM show on Air America with Liz Winstead. After the '04 election they were talking about Bush's statement that he had a political mandate by virtue of his "big win". The ladies started the mantra of "mandate, my ass!". I wanted it as a bumpersticker. It was great.

I've loved Rachel ever since then. I met her at a picnic a few years ago. She's a great speaker, as we know from her media work, but she's even more awesome in person.
