Republican spin: "It's understandable that McCain committed adultery
because he suffered so much as a POW."

Yep, I heard this from a staunch Republican, a very religious woman who went on at length about Clinton committing adultery (in the White House).

I'll betcha this will be the standard Republican "excuse" for McCain's behavior. That is, when they are up against the wall and MUST respond to it. I brought it up in my conversation with this woman, in part because I was curious as to how on earth they will justify McCain's outrageous adultery and treatment of his first wife. Oh, and I threw in some juicy bits about Newt Gingrich at the same time, talking about the hypocrisy of Gingrich having an adulterous affair while at the same time calling for Clinton's impeachment. That was a fun discussion!

1. Umm, isn't that cause for impeachment hearings.....
.... or at least a $50 million investigation by an overzealous prosecutor?

3. What does suffering as a POW have to do with fucking around on your wife?
If it screwed him up in the head, doesn't that make him a questionable pick for PRESIDENT?
If that's not what they're saying, then what exactly are they saying? Torture makes you into
a horny bastard? Puhleeze!

4. Exactly!
And if torture really DID make him into a horny bastard, why didn't he just own up to it, talk about it to his Navy psychiatrists and get some help. And if he wanted to be free to screw around, why wasn't he honest with his wife and quietly work out their divorce arrangements, instead of being a lying, cheating hypocrite?

7. Yep--if his experience means that he somehow is less able to control himself, then he
shouldn't be President.

5. Yeah
This is only one of the 3 combined excuses.

the other two are.

They were seperated so it was ok!

He admitted it was mostly his fault, so it is ok!

6. Except that they weren't separated. That has been proven a lie.
And so what if he admitted fault? So did Bill Clinton and they're still on a rant about his adultery...

13. The adultery issue is not a big deal
IMO...but it should for them...family values and all. I didn't think it was a big deal for BC and I don't think it's a big deal now...personal life is personal life.
