I have lost ALL respect for John McCain. Even if you are a party loyalist this is absolutely disgusting. Never have I seen a political party go after a war hero while touting an AWOL president.

3. He wants to run for president again in 2008.
He can't win the nomination if he doesn't demonstrate party loyalty. There was a good NYT article about it last week.

17. Yep... that's it EXACTLY...
The BFEE will be on the outs for the next election cycle (beyond the present one), which means NO Jeb! in 2008...

20. Not an effin chance!
McCain is smokin some serious bud if he thinks he'll ever get the nod from the RNC.

Jebby Bush is lined up to assume the throne if chimpy loses it this time around.

4. How can he?
Easy. He's a Repug. A CONSERVATIVE Repug. Maybe he's done a couple of decent things in his life, but he also made that terrible crack about Chelsea Clinton, and he doesn't let morality get in the way of his political aspirations.

If I were really nasty, I'd make some Repug-style comment to the effect that his time as a POW twisted him to the point that he identified with his abusers, and, like many victims, still clings to the perpetrators who humiliated him in 2000.

But I'm not that nasty, so I won't plant that notion here.

6. We can watch McCain, like Powell, destroy...
himself. In the future if McCain or Powell want to run for Prez, we got plenty of stuff on them. McCain flip flopper chicken shit. Powell the water boy. I like them destroyed, this will give Hillary a better chance in the future.

8. I still like him.
Sorry, folks, I'm not a McCain hater. I have respect for him -- he denounced the ads. He is an honest man (a very difficult thing for a politician, to be sure), and one bad joke about Chelsea isn't going to make me hate him. They are holding SOMETHING over him because he can't stand Bush. I don't know what is going on, but I know there was an assassination attempt on him during the 2000 campaign that didn't get any publicity, and I believe he is a good man.

We think we "know" people because we see them on television, but the truth is things happen we don't get to "see" because they are behind the scenes. This man has a family; do you think he WANTS to be doing the "team player" thing for a weasel like Bush? We've had several people talk about all the folks in Texas who are scared to death to talk about bad Bush things -- cut McCain a little slack. His life is one thing; his family is another. Pay attention to the look on his face when he's talking. The difference between sincerity and coercion is clear....

12. I cut McCain NO SLACK. This man had the same shameful
type of attacks and can now stand by and watch this happen to a fellow veteran? He's about as genuine as bush* saying that Kerry served honorably. Utter Horseshit.

he's still a Republican.

John McCain is basically Orrin Hatch, after a biography transplant and charisma implants.

11. Hmmm, could it be....
that he is a right wing political hack? People seem to expect a lot from McCain based on what I don't know. I guess it's the triumph of hope over experience. He's a turd.

13. My Two Cents
McCain like anyone is not perfect by any means but all in all, I believe that he tries to do the best he can within the political system which obviously is not such an easy world to live in.

I've been thinking for quite some time that they had something holding him in check. You have a man here, a pow, who obviously has learned how to hold it somewhat together in the face of fierce advesary..

I hadn't heard the comment about Chelsea, poor character flaw that one and brought him down a notch in my eyes but as far as politicians go, he is surely not the most evil, not even close..

Maybe his family is being threatened? Who wouldn't do what needed to be done in order to protect their loved ones?

14. McCain still wants to be President
and he's trying to paint himself as a good republican so as to curry favor with some who see him as a RINO. He's positioning himself at the forefront (along with Giuliani) and should * go down, McCain will be there at the top of the heap to take the reins and reorganize as a moderate republican party.

18. Well, if that's the case, he's in a lose/lose situation
Because it means he either has to swallow any pride and decency he has and go along with the party line so he can be in line for the throne or he can choose to be above that, to take the course of character and honor and forego being the next Republican candidate.

I sure hope I would choose to keep my dignity.

23. Hope he stays loyal to the wingnuts. That will fry up any chance
he has of winning the middle in a national election (if he runs for president some day). I didn't hate him before. I definitely hate him now.

Black Mesa? Keating Five? War booster for the neocons? Hello?

His PR has done a good job of obscuring who the guy really is. A lot like Colin "My Lai Massacre Massager" Powell, actually.
