Chris Wallace on Fox comes down hard on Swift Boat Veteran!
I just happened to see Chris Wallace this morning and was actually impressed at how hard he came down on one of the Swift Boat Veterans. He was almost as tough as Chris Matthews. They guy ended up looking quite bad! Perhaps Fox is worried about looking too soft on these guys as their reputation seems to be falling apart. I think Fox realizes they better look tough now or they will start loosing their credibility (what credibility they actually have left). Anyway, I think that the fact that Fox is now coming down on the swift boat liars means their days in the sun are limited. They have been discredited and it's over for them.

11. I think it is because they are hearing from offended Repug Veterans...
plain and simply. This attack on a fellow veteran should offend across all political spectra and in many cases, I think it Still DOES.

3. On which Fox show was Kerry referred to as a war criminal?
Some woman said it. I'd been listening to a demolition of the Swift Liars which is why I hadn't changed the channel, and then I heard that.

13. I heard Pat Buchanan blow one night...accused Kerry of committing treason
I turned the channel and didn't hear the rest. It was appalling. I made a half-hearted effort to find the transcript--I don't know if it's posted yet. So for all the Pat Buchanan isn't so bad supporters...
I will never forget that rat bastard's speech at the repub convention. And the fact that he was worked for Nixon. Maybe he was one of the people behind the original smear campaign.

I am not allowed to hunt her down and kill her. I can only enjoy the momentary fantasy of leaping thru the screen and werewolfing her lying larynx.

9. It wasn't just the fact that Wallace was tough...
but the fact that Juan Williams and to a lesser extent Connoly were tough AND that Hume and Crystal looked apopletic and frustrated. This was the worst I've seen Crystal on TV.

10. Swift Boat Veteran's
I think the Bush campaign has achieved exactly what it meant to achieve. Kerry was going strong on the issues, and they had to distract that growth in some way and this is how they chose to do it. Kerry has been too vulnerable int his situation. They found a weak spot in the fact that they got to Kerry and they used it.

If one thinks about it, this maneuver is typical of George Bush's time as appointed President. Lie to get the things you want, but never let the it be directly connected to him. Use others to take the blame, but all the while--snicker and make fun, but refuse to refute the lies and what the others are doing. He did this with the tax cuts, he did this with the war in Iraq--with Leave no Child Behind and on and on. It sounds great to the listening audience, but then behind the White House doors, all kinds of changes are made. He depends on the honesty of most people to believe what they hear, and too busy to check it out later.

What he says sounds good on the surface--which Bush uses to get what he wants, then he does as he damn well pleases. Kind of like a teenager that makes all kind of promises to drive the family car, but then does exactly the opposite and wrecks the car in the process.

14. This is not just what they wanted...
They wanted the American people to actually believe these lies. They wanted this to continue to steamroll through October. They were definitely not looking for this thing to be deflated so quickly and they certainly weren't looking for all of the people who have come out against them to do so. This thing has backfired much earlier and harder than the Bushies were envisioning.

Which is not to say that we've now got them where we want them. They did a little bit of damage, which might hold. But there's also a logical possibility of the backfire getting more powerful. The Swifties are spent. Their book is out and there is no more "evidence" they can uncover. The Kerry supporters and Swiftie detractors are just getting warmed up.

Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 03:08 PM by Argumentus
In order to get an anti-Kerry vote, since they're losing even their base nowadays.

In fact, I'll go so far as to suggest that the Reps are on the defensive, just trying to bring out anybody but Kerry votes to shore up their base.

22. The Swift Vets are suicide bombers for the Right
I think the Republicans know that America is ready to vote Bush out and they realize that the only way they can win is to make Kerry look worse than Bush. Will America buy it? They are playing a risky card but it's the only card they have left to play!

26. I think that's exactly what they're doing
and it's not what they want to be doing. Rove drove the Repubs to the right after 9/11 because he thought he had the American middle in the palm of his hands. Then the economy stayed in the shitter and Iraq became a disaster. Kerry squatted in the middle. I think the design of the Republican convention, with Schwarzenegger, Giuliani and other non-Republican Republicans as speakers, was to try to shove themselves back into the center. Now here come the Swifties pushing the party back to the right. Maybe Rove was trying to have it both ways but it won't work. Nobody is going to believe that because Schwarzenegger is pro-gay/pro-abortion the Bushies are now moderates. The backlash has legs so there's a good chance that it will carry up to and possibly through the convention. If that happens, Bush is really screwed.

23. I agree...this isn't what they wanted...
It's backfiring more than they could ever imagine.

This might actually turn out good for Kerry..bringing defenders out of the woodwork and Americans getting to know Kerry through him.

And they definetly didn't want that.

And speaking of teenagers, what was it is PJ O'Rourke said about congress? "Giving money and power to congress is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys." Just a thought...

20. Except the lie HAS been connected. And exposed.
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 03:19 PM by aquart
Understand that WE don't believe Bush. Many independents know he's a liar, too. Some Republicans are finally onto him. Fewer and fewer believe in his integrity and every day there's another exposure of another lie.

This ain't the way August was supposed to go. This was supposed to be a glory train of military triumph and maudlin 9/11 sentiment. They already knew last year they were shaky on the economy and it hasn't gotten a bit better. They had NOTHING to offer but military triumph, and our terror of another 9/11. And the military triumph has soured.

Do you really think this is how they hoped things would go? ZELL MILLER, a turncoat Democrat, is placing Bush's name in nomination. This is the guy who nominated BILL CLINTON, the man the
GOP tried so desperately to destroy. THEY'RE REACHING FOR A SHRED OF CLINTON'S GLORY????????? Honey, how desperate is that? Where are the rising Republican stars who want the camera time? Or is there no Republican wishing to risk his future by praising George on national television? A fundraiser is one thing. But NATIONAL TV? They're scared shit to be associated with George.

The Republican plan was to confer their attention and largesse on wounded NYC and gloat that the Democrats didn't think of it first. Do you think they're gloating? They're leaving the wives and kiddies home, they're so scared. "Why do those screaming people hate us, Daddy?" "Because we're lying fascist pigs, sweetie. Duck!"

NOTHING is playing according to the script. But what can you expect of a party that follows an economic model that doesn't take JOBS into account?

Welcome to DU.
