The Repub talking point of the day seems to be Kerry's Senate record ?
I have heard about three Repubs mention it already today. And Norm Coleman just mentioned it again on CNN. They don't want to talk about the great service he did investigating BCCI and the Bush Family. Or how he got the goods in the Iran/Contra scandal and opened the door to expose their hero, Ronald Reagan. Or how he worked relentlessly with John McCain to search for POWs and POW remains in Viet Nam? Or how he was a leader in promoting the Clinton economic plan in 1993 and his responsible economic polices? Nothing to sneeze at - he has been busy trying to keep these criminals straight for the last 20 years.

1. That's phase II
SBV was phase I. That's starting to die down in the mainstream media (it will live on in talk radio). The convention will be all about 'B* is decisive, gets results, Kerry did nothing in the Senate'.

2. Kerry needs to contrast his Senate record with Bush's business
record. Harken energy, eminent domain and trading Sammy Sosa.

3. I'll shill my "30 second BCCI ad" again ;)
"Bush did business with Bin Laden's bankers while Kerry...was fighting to shut it down to terrorist and drug connections."

"Long before September 11, 2001, George W. Bush got a 25 million dollar loan from the same bankers that dealt with bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, while John Kerry was fighting to stop this bank's global laundering of money for drug lords and terrorists. John Kerry shut it down. He's been fighting terrorism at its roots since before George Bush ran for office."

We need some others, like about the POW's. 3-4 sentences that sum it up in a punchy way.

4. Here's how the Dems need to answer that:
George W. Bush has been on vacation FORTY PERCENT of his Presidency, and campaigning or fundraising probably another TWENTY PERCENT (estimate). In addition, I would estimate that he has spent about TEN PERCENT of his Presidency on ceremonial duties.

The rest has probably been spent dismantling and bankrupting our federal government.

Did I leave out anything?

5. Yep
But these are all things that the DEMS should be bringing up, and they ain't. I like Nelson, but IMO he was really not very good in that segment. The Repubs are on-message with this stuff. The Dems often are not, and it drives me crazy.

There should be a standard response for each one of these. I mean, those comments by Coleman on the $6 billion cuts for CIA . . . hasn't this been explained? Shouldn't Nelson know the debunk on that straight away? These aren't new charges. Been leveled for weeks. But the lack of an answer from our side makes me nuts, and the questions are just left hanging.

7. I think the way to counter is with volume
Come out with a detailed list of every vote, every speech, every public committee meeting. It will probably take up about 1000 pages. Hold it up whenever anyone says he did nothing.
