will I be breaking campaign finance laws
if I print out a bunch of flyers from this site and leave them at the local campaign office?

http://www.kerrysupport.com/issues.html

Some of them say they are from the John Kerry site, some not with various credits and websites listed. But they all say they were put together with volunteer labor.

With all the "I saw a swiftboats flyer in the window of a GOP office" type threads - I thought that I would ask.

Can anyone direct me to a primer on campaign finance laws?

2. No, but I would be giving them to the Dem Party HQ tor
distribution. It is also the official Kerry campaign HQ for the area.

So, I guess is having those flyers in the office a violation of law?

3. SBVL are a 527; they are allowed no direct ties to the pResident

or the Bush/Cheney campaign.

I assume you aren't part of a 527; you are just a citizen and of this moment, as far as I'm aware, are still entitled to exercise your right to free expression.

However, that could change at any moment.

4. I'm not part of a 527
But I can't find anywhere on the site where I got the flyers if THEY are a 527 or not http://www.kerrysupport.com/

And the flyers will be distributed at a Kerry campaign office.

I've seen all these posts like "I saw a swiftboat flyer in the window of a GOP office". I'm sure that was put up by an individual too.

5. It wasn't just the flyers for the event that are the problem
Edited on Sun Aug-22-04 05:32 PM by DoYouEverWonder
The first problem is who printed and paid for the flyers? If these flyers were from a 527 group or a political party, than whoever sponsored the event and whoever paid for the flyers must be clearly stated.

The second even bigger problem is that the Secretary for the Alachua Country Republican Party has admitted, that she pulled the permit for the event and that she emailed people about the event, using her official title. Both are clear violations of election laws.
