John McCain s father was CINPAC when Bob Kerrey was put up for his medal...the recommendation was for 1 level lower than Medal of Honor.
McCain s father bumped him up to Medal of Honor.

I heard him tell this story, & it was quite interesting. Kerrey was laughing about it.

Bob Kerrey was pretty amazing...a Navy Seal, when it was quite rigorous to qualify.

after all, he did confess to some personal atrocities. I think it'd be better to keep Max Cleland out there and even better--of course--is to have Wes Clark out there EVERYWHERE because he can say "look, I didn't appreciate what Sen. Kerry said when he came back any more than any other soldier in Vietnam did. But it was the right thing to do, the moral thing to do, the patriotic thing to do," etc.

When you see Clark, you actually SEE the uniform on him still, even to the most partisan of them, IMHO. Kerrey might also be a bad idea because of the 9/11 thing and the pukes will make a case that he politicized it too much and did too much grandstanding.

The former Navy personnel who are attempting to discredit Sen. John Kerry's record of service in Vietnam are doing so to argue that he is unqualified to be commander in chief. Most appear to be angry with him on account of his opposition to the Vietnam War, not his service in it.
